• In 1974 the brothers met David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony to form Van
Halen.
• Around 1977 they met Kiss bassist Gene Simmons who financed their first
recording session.
• It was also around the time when the song “Eruption" was recorded showing
Eddie’s two-hand tap technique.
BAND SUCCESS
• Shortly after their first recording session, they signed with Warner Bros.
• In 1978 they released their self-titled album which got platinum status within
six months.
Lead Vocalist
• David Lee Roth – Left due to disagreements with Eddie over the use of electronics in
their music, and was replaced by Sammy Hager.
• Sammy Hager – Left due to Eddie dealing with his alcohol abuse and becoming
sober to which Hagar was a hard partier and had high tensions with Eddie.
• Gary Cherone – Left due to lack of sales from the albums released.
(Shortly after Cherone’s departure Van Halen parted with Warner Bros.)

Bassist
• Mark Stone – Was with the Van Halen brothers since 1972, but focused
on school so he was replaced.
• Michael Anthony – Replaced Stone in 1974 and around left around
the same time as Hager.
• Wolfgang Van Halen – Became the bassist around 2007 for a tour after
a long break by the band.
PERSONAL LIFE
• Eddie married a second time in 2009 to Janie Liszewski who he had been
dating for 3 years.

• Hammer-Ons
• Two-Handed Tapping
• Van Halen was one of the most if not the most popular and influential bands
in the 80s.
• The techniques used by Eddie were popularized by him mainly the two-hand
tapping.
• Eddie’s tone and style was something new and unique to the era, that
would influence others to follow.
