•Objectives of creating HSE department is to ensure that;

There are no occupational injures / ill health

All activities are carried out safely without any incident

Environmental performance meets legislative requirement

There is continuous improvement in HSE performance

HSE POLICY of SNGPL shows commitment of management towards


HSE. SMOKING POLICY has been made keeping in view the smoking
as a hazard for smokers and non smokers.

Major focus of HSE department is development of HSE management


system and procedures. 44 HSE Procedures have been developed duly
approved by the Management and incorporated in the Company`s IMS
HSE Manual.

HSE objectives define the goals which are desired to be achieved.

SNGPL got certification of ISO-14001 (Environmental Management System) and


OHSAS-18001 (Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Series) in 2008.

 19 Surveillance Audits regarding ISO-14001 and OHSAS-18001 certification of the


SNGPL sites have been successfully completed by certified body (URS).

Due to spread out nature of organization, SNGPL has been divided into 33 HSE
administrative sites.

Senior most person at a particular HSE administrative site acts as focal point for
that site and is assigned responsibilities for implementation of HSE program.

Role of HSE Executive

 In order to implement various SOP’s and to address the gaps with reference to
certification i.e. ISO- 14001 & OHSAS-18001 HSE Executives are essentially required.

 HSE Executive assists respective HSE Focal Point in ensuring implementation of


HSE procedure at various sites.

 HSE Executive assists HSE Focal Point for overall coordination of HSE activities at the
respective site

 HSE Executive assists HSE Focal Point to ensure availability of adequate fire
fighting procedure and holding of regular fire fighting drills.

Role of HSE Executive
 HSE Executive coordinates for providing training to company / contractor staff at site in
HSE awareness / HSE procedure.

 HSE Executive reports administratively to respective HSE Focal Point and functionally
to HSE department.

 Placement of HSE Executive at various sites to implement HSE programme is a


standard approach that has been followed by spread out organization like SNGPL.

 HSE Focal Points will remain responsible for ensuring performance.

The Key Man in Accident Prevention The Executive

• First line executive is the key man in accident prevention.


• He is a link between Management and work force.
• He is responsible for:
- Quality & quantity of job;
- Training of his subordinates;
- Developing of safe attitude;
- Detection and removal of unsafe acts/ conditions; and
- maintenance safety and administrative discipline.
