What Are Case Used For

The case protects internal computer components from damage and noise. It houses the motherboard, cooling fans, drives, and other parts. The motherboard connects all internal components and contains sockets for the CPU and RAM as well as ports for storage devices and expansion cards. It is the central circuit board that allows all parts to communicate. The CPU executes instructions and its processing speed impacts performance. RAM provides short-term storage that the CPU can quickly access for optimal speeds. The hard disk provides long-term storage for the operating system and programs. The graphics card controls display output like resolution and colors. Other common internal components include floppy disk drives, CD-ROM drives, sound cards, and network cards to enable connectivity.

What are case used for?

Case
 Holds the motherboard, cooling fans, drivers, and
other computer components.
 The case’s cover shields you from oft-considerable
noise a high performance pc can make.
 With a good case, the inside of your
computer is protected from physical
damage, foreign objects and electrical
interference.
Hardware
 Motherboard
The Motherboard

- it‘s the principal item inside the computer

- the main circuit board in the computer where
everything comes together

- main job: connecting the individual parts with each other

- processor and memory chips must be compatible
in- and output interfaces

port for the floppy disk

drive

battery for
the real-
time clock

socket
for the
IDE – connectors, ports for the hard CPU
disk, CD-ROM drive and burner
PCI card locations
PCI = Peripheral
Component Interconnect
connections for e.g.
network card, sound card

AGP – Interface
AGP = Accelerated Graphic Port
port especially for graphic cards
cooler,
provides for
cooling of the
CPU

RAM – ports
Hardware
 Motherboard
• Processor
The Processor (CPU (Central Processing Unit))

- absolutely necessary
- brain of the PC
- executes all important instructions

- speed (MHz) is very important

- can be upgraded
Hardware
 Motherboard
 Processor
• Main Memory
The Main Memory (RAM ( Random Access Memory))

- if you switch the computer on, all the information is put

into the RAM-section
- it´s the short-term brain of the computer
- the processor loads the data, which are frequently
used, into the main memory
- data in the main memory can be read much
faster than on the hard disk
- RAM-section is important for the processing-speed
- if additional memory is available, the computer is
much faster

• Hard Disk
Hard Disk

- it´s a long-term storage

- it has got a big memory volume
- you can store operating systems, programs and other
data on it
- it’s very shock sensitive

• Graphics Card
The Graphics Card

- nowadays usually in AGP standard

- determines the display resolution, the number of different
colours and the frame speed
- responsible for display output

• Floppy Disk Drive

The Floppy Disk Drive

- available in each standard computer

- for removable floppy disks to read and write data

- makes only sense for files with a small size (max. 1.44 MB)

- slow access

• CD-ROM Drive
The CD-ROM Drive

- can only read CD-ROMs

- relatively high data security in contrast to

a disk drive
- different rotational speed
- data transfer is much faster than from a disk drive

• Sound Card
The Sound Card

- PCI plug-in card

- is necessary for the sound output

- gets data, which are converted into sound

- has got at least one port for each the microphone and
speakers
