THE BASICS OF CREATING A CLAY MASK


LO: Construct and manipulate 3D material

Clay, slap, guide rail, slip, cross

STAGE 1
1. Make a stencil from newspaper using your design as
• Hands dry out clay – avoid contact

• Sculpt Carefully
2. Roll out clay to desired shape with guide rails
• SAFE work place
3. Cut out base of mask from the slab you have just
created with a scalpel. Refine Edges
• Don’t make the clay too thin – it will fall apart
4. Cut out features/shapes, refine the edges
• Pack away carefully – ensure airtight
5. Add on using slip and cross hatching
6. Use textures to explore pattern
