LAB REPORT-3

WAVEGUIDE
OBJECTIVE
To study evanescent and propagating modes in a water filled
waveguide by determining mode shapes, attenuation lengths, cut-off
frequency, phase speed and group speed
PRE LAB PREPARATION
• Calculating cut-off frequency

FINAL QUESTION
• In this experiment we used mylar source that cause mode 1,2 will be
excited if we place the source in the centre of the waveguide
• The two possible discrepancies :
• Waveguide boundaries are not the perfect pressure release
• Dimensions of waveguide vary along the length of the waveguide
• The possible reasons why the pressure do not go to zero at the sides :
• Waveguide boundaries are not the perfect pressure release
• Note that in the measurement, the recorded data never really goes to zero since the receiver
can not measure the pressure at the wall
