Inquiry/Problem Based Learning
*This video shows a lab taking place in an Here is a sample google word document
8th grade science classroom. Students are that could have been created by a group:
participating in an inquiry-based learning
environment where they are developing
their own questions within groups in order
to figure out how to solve problems with
landfills leaking into ground water. This
lesson could be improved if students could
work together in groups using Google
Docs. If students were using Google Docs,
each group could work together on the
same document to type their questions
and then answer as they go along. This
would make it easier for both students and
teachers to see which questions have
been asked, so they could work on new
problems, instead of repeating the same
thing over and over.

The link above is to a video that shows a math teacher explaining a project she
assigns her Algebra 1 students. The students were all math consultants and
were placed into groups. Each group was to create a Power Point Presentation
that showed how to use Algebra to choose the best cell phone plan. The
presentations were created for the PTO Board. Google Docs would be useful
for this project by allowing students to work on their presentation using the
Google Docs presentation tools. Students would be able to collaborate by
working at the same time or on their own. The teacher could monitor progress
and assess student participation.
