The past tense of a regular verb ends with –ed.

The past tense of an irregular verb does NOT end with

–ed.

Most irregular verbs change spelling, so they must be

remembered.

Some irregular verbs look very different in the past

tense.

The past tense of a regular verb ends with –ed.
Add –ed to most verbs to form the past tense.
Add only –d to verbs that end with –e.
For a regular verb that ends with a consonant and y,
change the y to i and add –ed.
You double the final letter of many regular past tense

consonant.
