Expressions
Jacinto, Edison D.
Expressions like 5, -1, 3, -5, +0.5,
36 ÷ 9 , (6)(3)-(20 ÷ 8), 3+[5+(7-2)]
are numerical expressions.
A numerical expression consist of
a single with or without operation
symbols, or two or more numbers
with operation and grouping
symbols.
Examples
Simplify: 4. 10 ÷ 2 ∙ 8 − 4 ∙ 10 ÷ 2 = 5 ∙ 8 − 40 ÷ 2
1. 4 ∙ 3 + 2 = 12 + 2 =40-20
= 14 =20
2. 15 ÷ 5 − 1 = 3 − 1 5. 5 ∙ 6 − 12 ÷ 2 + 8 ÷ 2 ∙ 5 = 30 − 6 + 4 ∙ 5
=2
= 30 − 6 + 20
3. 15 − 2 ∙ 7 + 6 = 15 − 14 + 6
= 24 + 20
=1+6
= 44
=7
