Understanding Digital Signature
Digital signatures are like electronic fingerprints. Digital signatures use
a standard, accepted format, called Public Key Infrastructure (PKI),
to provide the highest levels of security and universal acceptance.
They are as legally valid as physical signatures in the court of law.

A valid digital signature gives a recipient reason to believe that the

message was created by a known sender (authentication), that the
sender cannot deny having sent the message (non-repudiation),
and that the message was not altered in transit (integrity).

E-Lock digital signature solutions are compliant with worldwide legal

compliances like: US E-Sign Act, GPEA, HIPAA , EU Directives,
UETA (Uniform Electronic Transactions Act), Indian IT Act 2000

• Skynet - Ministry of Defense Project (UK)

The SkyNet project involves setting up of satellite communications

for the UK military. The ground control staff, involved with the
working and maintenance of the satellites, prepares a daily report
on their activities. They wanted an audit report to be created every
time a report was signed, which indicated the name of the user who
signed, the name of the report that was signed and the time of
signing.
E-Lock customized its SDK solution, which allowed users to sign
documents to generate PKCS#7 standard signatures and
additionally logged all signing activities into the Windows Event
manager.

• National Informatics Center (NIC): internal communication

National Informatics Center (NIC) is a software arm for the

Government of India. They decided to shift many of the government
processes into a paperless environment so as to decrease cost and
complete the processes in a shorter period of time.
They first decided to implement the use of digital signatures in-
house. Various reports and memos, which were being exchanged
within the NIC and between their regional offices, are now done
through an online mechanism. Approvals of reports/memos are
done in this online environment using E-Lock solution on the web.
