Judy Blume grew up in New Jersey. From a young age she THE AUTHOR &
enjoyed making up stories. She has written many novels THE BOOK
and is commonly known for her series about Fudge.
Many of her books are New York Times bestsellers.
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing was inspired by an article
Judy had been shown. Initially, the book was titled Peter,
Fudge and Dribbles. It was actually a picture book which
was rejected by all the publishers she had submitted her
manuscript to.
Later she met with Ann Durrell, a publisher who was
interested in publishing the book. However, she
suggested that Judy writes a longer story instead of a
picture book that follows Peter, Fudge, Dribbles, and the
boys family. The books title was changed to Tales of a
Fourth Grade Nothing to make sure it was not similar to a
recent release called Peter Potts; Ann had picked the
new title from a long list of alternate titles.
