Cloud Computing: By:-Shashank S. Waghmare Roll No. 02 Tyco

Cloud computing is an emerging technology that uses the internet and remote servers to maintain data and applications, allowing users to access files from any device with an internet connection. This centralized model allows for more efficient computing by sharing storage, memory, processing and bandwidth. While the concept originated in the 1960s, cloud computing has grown substantially in recent years as major companies like Microsoft have invested heavily in cloud-based services. It provides resources like computation and storage similar to a utility and enables collaboration through peer-to-peer sharing without central coordination. Key aspects of cloud computing include issues around privacy, security, availability and standards.

CLOUD COMPUTING

TYCO
Cloud Computing :-
• CLOUD COMPUTING IS
AN EMERGING
COMPUTING
TECHNOLOGY THAT
USES THE INTERNET
AND CENTRAL
REMOTE SERVERS TO
MAINTAIN DATA AND
APPLICATIONS. CLOUD
COMPUTING ALLOWS
CONSUMERS
• AND BUSINESSES TO USE APPLICATIONS
WITHOUT INSTALLATION AND ACCESS THEIR
PERSONAL FILES AT ANY COMPUTER WITH
INTERNET ACCESS. THIS TECHNOLOGY
ALLOWS FOR MUCH MORE TECHNOLOGY
ALLOW S FO R MUCH MORE EFFICIENT
COMPUTING BY CENTRALIZING STORAGE,
MEMORY, PROCESSING AND BANDWIDTH.
History :-
• The underlying concept of cloud computing dates back
to 1960s, when John McCarthy opined that
"computation may someday be organized as a public
utility". Almost all the modern day characteristics of
cloud computing (elastic provision, provided as a utility,
online, illusion of infinite supply), the comparison to the
electricity industry and the use of public, private,
government and community forms was thoroughly
explored in Douglas Park hill's, 1966 book, "The
Challenge of the Computer Utility".
• On March of 2010, Microsoft's CEO, Steve
Ballmer, made his strongest statement of
betting the company's future in the cloud by
proclaiming "For the cloud, we're all in" and
further stating "About 75 percent of our folks
are doing entirely cloud based or entirely
cloud inspired, a year from now that will be 90
percent."
Comparisons:-
• Autonomic computing:- “Computer systems capable of self-
management“.

• Client–server model :- Client–server computing refers broadly

to any distributed application that distinguishes between
service providers (servers) and service requesters (clients).

• Grid computing:- “A form of distributed computing and

parallel computing, whereby a 'super and virtual computer' is
composed of a cluster of networked, loosely coupled
computers acting in concert to perform very large tasks"
• Mainframe:- Powerful computers used mainly by large
organizations for critical applications, typically bulk data
processing such as census, industry and consumer statistics,
enterprise resource planning, and financial transaction
processing.

• Utility computing:- The "packaging of computing

resources, such as computation and storage, as a metered
service similar to a traditional public utility, such as
electricity";

• Peer-to-peer:- A distributed architecture without the need

for central coordination, with participants being at the
same time both suppliers and consumers of resources .
Characteristics :-
• Cloud engineering is a field of engineering that
generally deals with the lifecycle of Cloud
computing solutions, including analysis,
design, development, testing, integration,
build out, delivery, operation and
consumption of Cloud products and services.
Architecture :-
• The systems architecture of the software systems
involved in the delivery of cloud computing,
typically involves multiple cloud components
communicating with each other over application
programming interfaces, usually web services.
• The back end of the cloud computing
architecture is the ‘cloud’ itself, comprising
various computers, servers and data storage
devices.
