It Infrastructure: Computer Software Data Management Services

IT infrastructure refers to the hardware, software, network resources, and services that support an organization's IT environment and allow it to deliver IT solutions. Data management is handled through database management software and storage devices like disk arrays, tape libraries, and storage area networks. Common database management systems include IBM DB2, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, and the open-source MySQL. Organizations may also use technology service providers to manage parts of their IT infrastructure.

IT INFRASTRUCTURE

Infrastructure
Infra- means "below;" so the infrastructure is the
"underlying structure" of a country and its
economy, the fixed installations that it needs in
order to function. These include roads, bridges,
dams, the water and sewer systems, railways and
subways, airports, and harbors. These are generally
government-built and publicly owned. Some people
also speak about such things as the intellectual
infrastructure or the infrastructure of science
research, but the meaning of such notions can be
extremely vague.
What does IT Infrastructure mean?

IT infrastructure refers to the composite hardware,

software, network resources and services required
for the existence, operation and management of an
enterprise IT environment. It allows an
organization to deliver IT solutions and services to
its employees, partners and/or customers and is
usually internal to an organization and deployed
within owned facilities.
Data management and storage is handled by
database management software and storage devices
include traditional storage methods, such as disk
arrays and tape libraries, and newer network-based
storage technologies such as storage area networks
(SANs). SANs connect multiple storage devices on
dedicated high-speed networks.
IBM DB2

IBM's DB2 is a "Relational Database Management System"

(RDBMS), where the "database" contains the data you want
to work with, the "management" is what you want to do to
the data, and the "system" means that DB2 is a collection of
computer software programs that perform this particular
type of task.
DB2 is designed to make the storage and analysis of data
easier.
ORACLE
An Oracle database is a collection of data treated as a unit.
The purpose of a database is to store and retrieve related
information. A database server is the key to solving the
problems of information management. In general,
a server reliably manages a large amount of data in a
multiuser environment so that many users can concurrently
access the same data. All this is accomplished while delivering
high performance. A database server also prevents
unauthorized access and provides efficient solutions for
failure recovery.
Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management
system developed by Microsoft. As a database server, it is a
software product with the primary function of storing and
retrieving data as requested by other software applications
which may run either on the same computer or on another
computer across a network (including the Internet).
It is a full-featured databse primarily designed to compete
against competitors Oracle Database (DB) and MySQL.
Sybase is an enterprise software and services company that
produces software to manage and analyze information in
relational databases. Sybase is a standalone subsidiary of SAP.
MySQL is an open-source relational database management
system (RDBMS). Its name is a combination of "My", the
name of co-founder Michael Widenius' daughter, and "SQL",
the abbreviation for Structured Query Language.
MySQL is a central component of the LAMP open-source
web application software stack (and other "AMP" stacks)
