The Sanctuary Pattern in the Experiences of Israel
The life experience of Israel, Christ and the church follows a pattern of events that comes
in the sequence of the sanctuary furniture.

 The Exodus
 The temptation of Christ
 The crucifixion and the days before.
 The seven last plagues. The call to come out of Babylon is a call to leave the
wilderness and come home.
 The Second Coming

The Exodus Experience

Let us compare the Exodus experience with the
elements of the temple.
The Temple Elements
1. Lamb Slain at Passover. (Exodus 12: 1- A Review
13) The event that happened before the
Exodus, setting the stage for people to Exodus 25 - 32 gives a detailed
move from the captivity of Egypt description of the temple
(enslavement to sin) to God. Blood of the construction and elements.
Passover Lamb was what protected the Outer Court
people from the death angel. Symbol of our
being forgiven through the Blood of Christ, 1. Brazen Altar - Place where
if we will accept it. sacrifices were slain
2. Passing through the Red Sea. (Exodus 2. Laver of Water - Place where
14: 21-22) Paul says they were 'baptized' in priests cleansed themselves.
the sea. Symbol of Baptism - symbol of
leaving our old way of life to follow God. Holy Place
'Therefore we are buried with him by 3. 7 Branch Candlestick
baptism into death: that like as Christ was 4. Table of shewbread - a meal
raised up from the dead by the glory of the 5. Alter of Incense - for prayer
Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life.' (Romans 6: 4) Most Holy Place
6. Ark of Covenant where God
Children of Israel led through the dwells over the Mercy Seat
wilderness, to Mount Horeb (another name and the Tables of Stone
for Sinai). We have seen that the Mountain
(Mt. Sinai) is the location of God's
Sanctuary (Temple) at this time.
3. Burning Bush. (Exodus 3: 1-2) Note description of Candlestick (Exodus 25: 31-
34). It is described in terms of almond flowers when lit it resembles a 'a burning
almond bush'.
4. Meal on the Mountain. (Exodus 24: 11) What do you suppose they ate?
(Manna?) - parallel to Table of Shewbread.
5. Stone Altar. (Exodus 24: 4) - at the base of the Mountain (foot of the Sanctuary).
True Worship on God's Holy Mountain
The experience of the exodus was an exact image of the sanctuary. There is a sacrifice, a cleansing by
water, a place set apart for God where only the priests could go. There was meal on the mountain in God's
presence, there was God and the commandments. These are the parallels of the exodus in order of their
events as they parallel the structure of the sanctuary from the east gate to the most holy place:

The Sacrifice
• The Israelites had a
Passover sacrifice, the altar
of sacrifice was the first
stop into the sanctuary
The Exodus
• They left the land of
slavery to be with God in
the promised land

The Cleansing
• They were baptized into
the red sea. They wandered
in the desert for 40 years.
God hovered over them in a
pillar of clouds. The laver is
also known as "the bronze
sea" the priests washed here
before entering the sanctuary
The Place of Worship
• The mountain has a fence only Moses, Aaron and the 70 elders could go up. The tabernacle has a
curtain, only the priests could go in.
A Meal with God
• The table of shewbread and drink offering were in the holy of holies. The elders ate and drank on the
mountain
The Light of God
• When Moses first saw God on the mountain He appeared in a burning bush. The 7 branched candlestick
with its almond tree design looked like a burning bush when lit.
Stone Altar at the Base of the Mountain
• They prayed on the mountain, the altar of incense was in the Holy Place
Worship the True God
• God sat enthroned on the top of the mountain in the fire of his glory on top of a blue sapphire stone with
a host from heaven. He carved the ten commandments from the stone. Only Moses and Joshua could go
up. Only the high priest could enter the Most Holy Place where God sits enthroned on top of the stones of
the ten commandments covered by the angels

Promised New
THE MEANING OF SYMBOLS & RITUALS
A Sacrifice. The sacrifice was a substitute for our punishment for sins.
Christ forgave us and paid the penalty for sin.
1. The Exodus. Leave slavery to sin and go to the Promised Land.
Ultimately, we will leave the land of death and live forever.
2. A Cleansing. The cleansing removes sin. Christ permanently removes
sin and ensures that sin will not rise again by writing His law in our
hearts. The Holy Spirit also lives in us and cleanses our hearts and
creates the new person who is born again from above.
3. A Meal. The meal gives life. Christ gives us eternal life as a reward.
We share in His resurrection and new life.
4. A Light. The light is the power and glory of God to recreate us by
removing our sin and guilt and restoring life to us. Christ was God
and only God could provide for our forgiveness, cleansing and new
life. The Word of God is also our light. Then the Bible is another
light that speaks the truth about what God is doing for us.

Israel Recognizes the Messiah in the Breaking of the Passover Bread
This story predicts that Israel will recognize the Messiah during a future Passover. After the
resurrection, close to sunset, the two disciples on the road to Emmaus also recognized Him in the
breaking of the bread. Jesus first showed them how the law and the prophets prophesied about
Him. But it was after they ate that they recognized Him.

 Prophecies about Jesus. First teach them how the scriptures prophesied about Jesus.
Luke 24: 27, 44

 The Broken Passover Bread. Celebrate the Passover symbols as the liberation from sin
through Christ.
Luke 24: 30-31, 35
The Centurion. At His crucifixion, the centurion recognized Him the moment He died.
This was the moment the Bread of Life was broken.
When the centurion who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed
His last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God". (Mark 15: 39).
 The Ascension Liberation. After they recognized Him, He must have ascended to
Heaven. This was at sunset on Sunday, when the three days and nights in the earth were
over. After the Jews recognize the Messiah, then we will also vanish from this earth in
the Second Coming.

» Doubters and Unbelievers. With all the evidence there will still be unbelievers. Jesus dealt
with the doubters by revealing Himself in the scriptures and by also showing them the holes in
His hands and feet.
