CONCLUSION
INTRODUCTION
What is Augmented Reality (AR) ?
Augmented Reality is a field of computer research which deals with combination of reality
with computer generated data.
AR is the real time delivery of digital information to enhance or enable a geographical and
physical experience.
MIXED REALITY
Miligram coined the term Augmented Virtuality to identify systems which are mostly
synthetic with some real world imagery added such as texture mapping video onto virtual
objects.
Milgram (1994) proposes that the distinction between terms real and virtual can be
measured by three aspects, depending on whether one is dealing with real or virtual
objects, real or virtual images, and direct or non-direct viewing of these objects. These are
(a) Reproduction Fidelity
(b) Extent of Presence Metaphor
(c) Extent of World Knowledge
HISTORY
The beginnings of AR, as we define it, date back to Sutherlands work in the 1960s,
which used a see-through HMD to present 3D graphics. However, only over the past
decade has there been enough work to refer to AR as a research field.
In 1997, Azuma published a survey that defined the field, described many problems, and
summarized the developments up to that point.

HOW DOES IT WORKS ?
Basically, An AR system:
combines real and virtual objects in a real environment;
registers (aligns) real and virtual objects with each Other; and
runs interactively in three dimensions and in real time.
Using a mobile application, a mobile phone's camera identifies and
interprets a marker, often a black and white barcode image. The software
analyses the marker and creates a virtual image overlay on the mobile
phone's screen, tied to the position of the camera. This means the app works
with the camera to interpret the angles and distance the mobile phone is
away from the marker.
TYPES OF DISPLAY
Of all modularities in human sensory input, sight, sound or touch are currently the senses that AR
systems commonly apply. The basic display modules are as follows :
VISUAL DISPLAY
There are four major classes of AR display.
(a) Video see through display
(b) Optical see through display
(c) Virtual retinal systems
(d) Projector based AR
AURAL DISPLAY
HAPTIC DISPLAY
IMPLEMENTATION FRAMEWORK
To implement there are four things that we require to do
First, find users location
Second find users orientation (view)
Third generating information
Fourth augmenting it to users view
For wearable augmented reality system, there are still not enough computing power
to create stereo 3D graphics
Augmented reality is another step further into the digital age as we will soon see our
environments change dynamically either through a Smartphone, glasses, car windshields and
even windows in the near future to display enhanced content and media right in front of us.
This has amazing applications that can very well allow us to live our lives more
productively, more safely, and more informatively.
