Education in management have mainly following aims


 Increase the understanding of the factors which influence the conduct of
organizations
 Provide students with the tools and techniques that they may use to influence
organizational life. Influence the economy in general
 Management education can rather be compared with medicine. No doctor is
allowed near a patient purely on the basis of theoretical knowledge

THE INSTITUTE
 IIMA has evolved from being India's premier management institute to a notable
international school of management in just four decades
 Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and a few spirited industrialists realising that agriculture,
education, health, transportation, population control, energy and public administration were
vital elements in a growing society, and that it was necessary to efficiently manage these
industries
 Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad in 1961 as an autonomous body with the
active collaboration of the Government of India, Government of Gujarat and the industrial
sectors.
 Institute had initial collaboration with Harvard Business School. This collaboration
greatly influenced the Institute's approach to education. Gradually, it emerged as a
confluence of the best of Eastern and Western values
Faculty Recruitment
IIMA is a place where 90 odd full time faculty and an equal number of visiting faculty of
international standards meet to teach courses, do research and consulting

Qualifications
Professor: Ph.D or equivalent with a successful track record of research and publications
and a minimum of 10 years of teaching/research/industrial experience of which at least 5
years should be at the level of Assistant /Associate Professor.
Associate Professor: Ph.D or equivalent with a successful track record of research and
publications and a minimum of 8 years of teaching/research/industrial experience of which
at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant / Associate Professor.
Assistant Professor: Ph.D or equivalent with a brilliant academic background. Experience,
while desirable, is not essential. Those about to complete their doctorate may also apply.
Such candidates may be considered for visiting appointment till such time they formally
complete the doctoral program.
An outstanding manager or a professional in his own field working in industry and with
established reputation and who has made significant contribution to knowledge, but not
having a Ph.D degree, could also be considered for appointment.
For all the above positions, contractual or visiting appointment for specific periods will be
considered. The age of superannuation is 65 years with facilities to get re-employment
upto 70 years.

Salary and Perquisites

Plus allowances and superannuation benefits as per the government of India norms.
Faculty is allowed to do consulting according to Institute norms. New faculty can expect
on-campus accommodation.
Research Overview
 Research is at the core of IIMA and provides a major interface with the wider
academic and business world
 It provides new theoretical frameworks that enable reassessment and
refinement of current practices and thinking
 Groundbreaking interdisciplinary research by the faculty feeds directly into an
enhanced learning environment at the Institute and indirectly to a wider audience
of practicing managers and teachers of management
  The Research and Publications Committee prepares an Annual Report on the
total research activity at the Institute during the year including case research and
seminar research. It also publishes a quarterly research newsletter

Starting salary and position are dependent on qualification, research contribution,
academic & professional achievements and experience. In addition to salary, an
attractive incentive scheme is available for Research, Consulting and MDPs.
Applicants from academia should have Ph.D. from reputed Indian / Foreign

 Journal of Management Research endeavours to promote and disseminate
knowledge in the complex multi-disciplinary management field. The journal
encourages theoretical and empirical research papers and articles of relevance to
both academicians and practitioners
 It is a tri-annual Journal of MSA, Faculty of Management Studies, University
of Delhi. The Harvard Business School has a tie up with the Faculty of
Management Studies to exchange the Journal of Management Research with The
Harvard Business Review
 The journal publishes articles from areas such as finance, accounting,
marketing, operations management, human resources management, statistics,
international business, information technology, environment, risk management,
globalization and related areas
  S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) grew rapidly in eminence from
one of the three B-schools in the country
