Background on climate finance

Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), 2001
Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF), 2001
Adaptation Fund (COP7), est. 2001, launched 2007
Green Climate Fund, est. 2010, launched in 2012 &
operational 2013
Global Environmental Facility
Established in 1991. Allocates resources according to the
impacts of dollars spent on environmental outcomes,
but ensures that all developing countries have a share
of the funding.
Under the 5th replenishment (2011-2014): 40 donor
countries pledged US$ 1.35 Billion to the Climate
Change Focal area.
GEF had approved US$ 799 for 232 projects.
The 6th replenishment (2015-2018) will ensure that
GEF makes an estimated US$ 3 Billion available for
climate change,

(LDCF)
The Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) was
established on directives to the Conference of the
Parties to the UNFCCC at its seventh session.

LDCF finances the preparation and implementation of


National Adaptation Programme of Actions (NAPAs)
in response to urgent and immediate adaptation needs
in least developed countries.

Uganda has so far been allocated US$ 26.6 million to


implement 6 projects
