Uses & Gratifications

Apps can be installed on the console and the internet is also accessible to view upcoming events and events that have recently occurred across the country

Xbox may influence peoples personal identity. Some may become influenced by games that they are are into and find inspirational or iconic. They may dress similar
and act similar to boost their self consciousness and be more comfortable in their own skin

Online chat may create personal relationships between one another based on similar interests. For example interests in video games that can introduce people with
other people who enjoy the same game

A lot of people play consoles to escape from the reality and everyday life. They may feel like its a way to express themselves and to relieve stress from what's going
on outside the real world. It also allows people to in a way experience things that they would find difficult to experience in the real world.
Media Effects Debate
Copycat Violence An extremely popular yet violent example is GTA V. its a very controversial video game in which the player interacts and takes part in multiple
amounts of heists, use of guns, car thieving and high amounts of physical violence. I personally believe that violence within a video game stays within a video
game and for the most part doesn'tt influence our decisions on the outside world
Racism, Sexism, - Racism and sexism isn't applicable as the game doesnt address these. If it were to exist in the game this may affect some peoples self
confidence if it were to crticise or take the mick
Does media influence us? A lot of media can be false and therefore gullible people are forced fed with false information. Many people know things such as video
games and the violence within them stays within the game itself and not brought out into the real world
Violent media / violent acts - again there is huge uses of guns, car thieving and physical violence.
Language use there is a high amount of explicit language which may suggest that they are quite aggressive. Hearing excessive amounts of this language may
inflict on those playing the game
Sexualised content? a lot of the story line is based around sexual acts and promiscuous scenes. Strip clubs and such play a big part in the main characters lives
and suggest that they are either unhappy with their families or they are sexually frustrated.
Relevant issues of representation

How are the subjects represented?

Positively the console is portrayed in a positive way in the sense that its features are
presented to make the viewer think that it has multiple features that set it apart from the
competitors
Negatively the only negative idea that could be presented is that he may appear quite lethargic
slouched back onto a sofa playing video games
Use of stereotyping / archetypes and countertypeing one stereotype is the use of
masculinity. Having the guy slouched on the sofa portrays laziness and the use of the voice recognition
system adds to this idea.
Masculinity / Femininity the Xbox advert I looked at revolves around a male celebrity taking
part in playing a video game which is quite stereotypical
How could this be an issue for the audience? there's nothing extreme or noticeable
for the viewer to be offended by
They keep it simple with the only camera shots being the pan at the beginning and then the
swithing between the shot on the celebrity and what's going on, on the TV.
Then
