Deep Kalra is the founder and CEO of MakeMyTrip, a leading online travel company based in India. After graduating from St. Stephen's College and IIM Ahmedabad, Kalra worked as a banker but grew interested in entrepreneurship. He co-founded MakeMyTrip in 2000 to make travel booking easier online. The company struggled initially but became profitable after Kalra and others worked without pay. MakeMyTrip is now India's largest online travel agency, handling airline, hotel, bus and other travel bookings. Kalra continues to lead the growing company and receive recognition for his work developing the Indian travel industry.

Deep Kalra was worked with ABN Amro Bank.

In 1995,He quit his boring job of banker to join AMF


Bowling, an American company that is trying to set up
bowling alleys & billiard halls in India.

Kalra managed to open 200 lanes.

He had boss in America who didnt give much guidance


or mentorship.

Decided to quit again from AMF bowling after 4 years
service.

Come back to corporate world as a Banker. He began to get


that entrepreneurial itch again and he quit from the job.

Then he launched MakeMyTrip.com.

Idea get generated by his thought about how hard it was


travel to India & he was very much excited in power of
Internet.

Earlier stage of Company was failure because of following reason.

I. People scared about using credit card.


II. Non established brand.
III. Venture company refused to invest.

. But Karla and two senior manager bought back equity in the
business

. They agreed to work in the company with out salary for 18


months. Finally it become successful.
Company is now making more than 255.4 million of
profit.

During the recession company made 88% of revenue.

After the airline tickets, the second biggest category is


railway ticket(2500 tickets per day).

And Largest e-commerce business in the country.
