CLASSIFICATION OF
LACERATED WOUNDS
Splitting cause by crushing of the skin between two hard
objects. This best seen in the laceration of the scalp caused by a
hit of a blunt instrument, cut eyebrow of boxer and laceration of
the chin of motorcyclist.
Overstretching of the skin. When pressured is applied on one
side of the bone, the skin over the area will be stretched up to a
breaking point cause laceration and exposure of the fractured
bone. In avulsion, the edges of the remaining tissue is that of
laceration.
Grinding compression the weight and the grinding movement
may cause separation of the skin with the underlying tissues.
Tearing this may be produce by a semi-sharp-edge instrument
which causes irregular edges on the wound, like hatchet and
choppers.

Lacerated wounds may involve deeper tissues
like laceration of the muscles and fracture of
the bones depending upon the degree of force
applied in causing it.
It may be homicidal or accidental but rarely it
is suicidal.
