Commitment to

Learning

Brad Heap
Be flexible
Being flexible means being ready and able to change
to adapt to different circumstances

Incorporate feedback effectively

Deal positively with praise, setbacks, and criticism

Understand, negotiate, and balance diverse views and

beliefs to reach workable solutions, particularly in
multi-cultural enviroments
Keep an open mind

The definition of open minded is a willingness to try

new things or to hear and consider new ideas.

An example of an open minded person is one who

listens to her opponent in a debate to see if the
information makes sense or if she can change her
mind.

Being open minded is a door that leads to new ideas

and innovation.
Use initiative
Initiative can also mean a personal quality that shows a
willingness to get things done and take responsibility. An
initiative is the start of something, with the hope that it will
continue.

Show up on time

Dont get caught slacking

Report on completed projects

Offer to help

Accept and dont complain about new assignments

Make suggestions
Listen and read attentively
Listening attentively is one of the single most
important skills you can develop.

Attentively - Paying close attention; alert or observant:

an attentive listener; attentive to detail.

Listening is important because it prevents

miscommunication, can make a message more clearly
understood and can help reduce the amount of
frustration for the speaker. Listening is a skill that is
required for all types of communication.
Seek and acquire new knowledge
and skills
One of the most effective ways to gain new knowledge is
teaching

The key is to acquire small chunks of knowledge and then

apply them in different ways. Input, process, output. Teach,
solve problems, or build something. Retrieving information
from memory is the process of learning. When you use
information in a new setting, thats when you start
understanding it.

To strengthen this process you can leverage five principles:

Take breaks
Plan and structure your learning
Hook your knowledge into multiple pieces of information
Create a system for identifying knowledge blind spots
Leverage your emotions
