Transformations

The document defines three types of transformations - translations, reflections, and rotations. It provides examples and interactive links to help understand each type of transformation. Translations move a figure in a straight direction without changing its size or shape. Reflections flip a figure across a line. Rotations turn a figure around a fixed center point.

Defining Transformations

Mallory Rudmann
TEKS 8th Grade Mathematics
111.28(b)(10)(a)(b)

111.28. Grade 8, Adopted 2012.

(b)Knowledge and skills.

(10)Two-dimensional shapes. The student applies

mathematical process standards to develop
transformational geometry concepts. The student is
expected to:
(A)generalize the properties of orientation and congruence of
rotations, reflections, translations, and dilationsof two-
dimensionalshapeson a coordinate plane;
(B)differentiate between transformations that preserve
congruence and those that do not;
Transformation
A transformation moves a figure to another position without
changing the size or shape.
Three types: Translation, Reflection, and Rotation

Translation
A transformation in which the figure is moved in a straight
direction

Reflection
A transformation in which an object is reflected across a line, resulting in
a mirrored image.
The line used to reflect the object is known as the Line of Reflection
