Transformations Project

Maria Ibarra will be teaching 3rd graders about transformations including translations, reflections, and rotations. She will verify transformations experimentally and have students identify lines of symmetry. She provides examples and interactive websites for students to explore transformations of geometric figures through translations, reflections, and rotations.

Transformations Project

Maria Ibarra
I will be teaching 3rd graders about
transformations.

TEKS
Geometry and measurement. The student applies mathematical
process standards to analyze attributes of two-dimensional
geometric figures to develop generalizations about their
properties.
Verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections,
and translations.
Identify line of symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.
Transformation

Transformation is any function from the plane to itself that is a

one-to-one correspondence. Each original point in the plane has
an image point in the transformed plane and vice versa.

Translation

Translation is a term used to describe a function that moves a

certain distance. In translation each point of the object must
move the same direction and the same distance.

Reflection

Reflection is when an object is flipped over the line that separates

two planes. Also known to be a mirror image.

Rotation

Rotation is when you hold an object by the center point and

rotating the object by that center point. The distance from the
center to any point stays the same.
