The document discusses editing techniques used in a short film. Fade and blur transitions were used throughout to show time progression, and a fade transition was used at the end to symbolize a character fading into the afterlife. Audio was altered to enhance quality - ambient noise was lowered in some shots and removed in others, with replacement ambient sound and non-diegetic music added to set a solemn mood. Visual editing in Final Cut Pro was also used - saturation was increased in early scenes to create warmth and happiness, while later scenes had saturation decreased and 'cool tones' overlays to remove warmth and reflect the character's state of mind confronting reality.

Transitions
There were Fade and Blur
transitions used throughout
the short filmed, used to show
a progression in time.
However, in the final Scene, a
Fade transition was placed in
between a long take of
Hayden waving and walking
away. In doing this, an effect
was created in which Hayden
appears to fade into the air as
he walks away, as symbolism
of his spirit going to heaven.
Audio
During the editing process, many alterations were
made to enhance the audio quality of the short film.
The first three Scenes have diegetic ambient
sound, with the lack of ambient sound in later
Scenes symbolizing Karinas further drifting into her
fantasy. The background noise in some shots had to
be lowered as it was a hindrance on the Scene, but
subsequently the majority of the shots had their
audio removed and would be replaced with ambient
sound where necessary. We also made use of non-
diegetic score music to create a solemn and
depressing mood throughout the short film.
Visual
The colouring of almost every shot was edited
within Final Cut Pro x to further enhance the
mood of the Scenes. For the first three
Scenes, the Saturation tool is used to give
warmth to the colours within the shots and
create a happy atmosphere. In contrast, the
shots in Scenes 5 and 9 have the Cool Tones
overlay placed on them to remove warmth,
which reflects Karinas state of mind as she
comes face-to-face with the reality that
Hayden is dead.
