Z - Score Exercises

The document provides information and exercises about standard scores and z-scores. It includes the mean, standard deviation, and sample size for different data sets. It asks the reader to convert raw scores to z-scores and standard scores. It also asks the reader to calculate average standard scores for a student across multiple tests. Finally, it asks the reader to calculate the number of scores expected above and between certain values for normal distributions with given mean, standard deviation, and sample sizes.

Standard Scores

Exercises
1. Given the following test statistics,
Mean = 84
Standard deviation = 12
N = 797
1.1 Convert each of the ff. to a z score
a) 84 b) 72 c) 96
d) 54 e) 120 f) 91

1.2 Change each of the z scores obtained

above to a standard score with a mean of
500 and s = 100.
In the Table below are the scores of a student on
3 tests and the test statistics for each test:
Test 1 Test 2 Test 3
X = 80 X = 70 X = 13
M = 92 M = 55 M= 6
S = 11 S = 13 S= 2
1. What is the students average standard score
for these tests? Use X = 50, S = 10.
2. Suppose the scores are to be weighted
4, 2, and 1. What is the students average
weighted score?
A distribution of test scores follows the
normal distribution with a M = 30, S = 12,
and N = 600.
a) How many scores would you expect to
find above a score of 100?
b) What is the probability of a persons
getting a score of 100 or more on this
test?
M = 80, S = 12, N = 600
c) How many scores would you expect to
find above each of these scores in the
distribution?
90 58 110
d) How many scores would you expect to
find between the ff. pairs of scores?
90 107
70 90
95 - 100
