EVALUATION
QUESTION 3 WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK? HOW HAVE YOU CARRIED OUT YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
Focus group at the end
Had target and general audience Throughout production we regularly showed snippets of the piece to members of our target audience to guage their opinions on things like colour schemes and shot- types etc. WHAT POSITIVE COMMENTS WERE RECEIVED ABOUT THE PIECE?
ADAPTED CONVENTIONS OF DIFFERENT DOCUMENTARIES
CLEAR GENRE Engaginguses artistic elements as well as conventional Poster is clearly a channel 4 poster Radio ad sounds as expected on capital radio whilst driving to work WHAT NEGATIVE COMMENTS WERE RECEIVED ABOUT THE PIECE?
Location could have been improved
Got slow towards the end Narrator could have had a more clearly defined role Sound mixing could have been better Poster could have had more use of imagery rather than colour Radio could have been more akin to the other products. HOW MIGHT THESE COMMENTS CHANGE HOW YOU WORK AS A GROUP OR SOLO IN THE FUTURE?
Largely speaking we worked on different aspects so relationship between the three
products wasnt as tight as it could have been Shared objective could have been more understood so that the three projects could have been more united in their style Better communication between members In the future Ill do more enquiry into the likes/dislikes of the target audience. WHAT DID THE COMMENTS TEACH YOU ABOUT EDITING AND PRODUCING A DOCUMENTARY? Documentaries dont have to be boring Dont have to be the same set of conventions-can blend the modes together Maintaining attention can be difficult Tone is very important-tone of poster- affects how people view it and their perception of it Continuity between texts-ancillary texts have to be extensions of their main text, not a separate thing WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT THE PROCESS OF AUDIENCE FEEDBACK? Anonymous feedback would help them be more honest in their replies Film might not be the best idea as they might be more focused on the fact that theyre on camera than their answers More open questions allow for more extensive answers than closed yes or no questions Audience feedback throughout the product is key to keeping focus on what your target audience wants
