Meningitis

What is it ?

Its an inflammation of the meninges.


Probable causes include bacterial infection, virus, other microorganisms or it might be
caused by a certain drugs.

Is it dangerous?

Its considered a medical emergency


Its life threatening

Why is it dangerous?

It might get confused with a common flu, until its too late to be treated for it.
The inflation is close to the spinal cord and the brain

Symptoms

Headache
High fever
Vomiting
Stiff neck
Confusion
Altered consciousness

Can it be spread?

It can easily be spread by common sharing habits such as:


- Sharing drinks
-Sharing utensils
-Kissing
-Any other activity that might include close contact

How many types of meningitis are


there?

There are 5 types of meningitis which are:


-A
-C
-W
-Y
-B
Since the 1980s there has been a vaccine for type A,C,W,Y but for the type B it was
created in late 2014.

Facts

Meningitis B (bacterial) represents 40% of all meningococcal


1 in 10 adolescence and young adults who develop meningitis end up dying within the
next 24 hours
