WHY DO THEY CONDUCT GROUP


DISCUSSION
To check the potential of the candidates to work in a
team.
Number of persons with temperaments and different
field of specialization.
To test your ability to co-exist with others.
To test of your interactive skills and how good you
are communicating with other people.
( The discussion involves an exchange of thoughts and ideas
among members of the group)

Reasons for having a GD

It helps you to understand a subject more deeply.


It improves your ability to think critically.
It helps in solving a particular problem.
It helps the group to make a particular decision.
It gives you the chance to hear other students'
ideas.
It improves your listening skills.
It increases your confidence in speaking.
It can change your attitudes.

GROUP SIZE
The group size varies between 8 to 10 persons.
They are allotted roll numbers or chest
numbers so that the evaluator may identify
them while evaluating them.
Members of the groups are seated in circle or
semi circle in the sequence of their roll
numbers or chest members.

Who monitor the discussion?


An officer, usually known as evaluator or
group testing officer monitors the
discussion.

GDs can be topic-based or case-based
Topic based Gds can be classified into
three types :1. Factual Topics
2. Controversial Topics
3. Abstract Topics

HOW TO HANDLE AWKWARD SITUATIONS

Irrelevant discussion
When someone is interrupting you again and again
When someone refutes your statement

COMMON MISTAKES AT GROUP DISCUSSION

More Quantity but no Quality.


Uncontrolled emotions.
Showing off Excessive Knowledge.
He got Noticed But for the wrong reasons.
He failed to manage his insecurities.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS IN GD

Always enter with a pen and paper.


Always enter the group and not an individual.
Encourage the person who wants to speak.
Do not encourage the persons who doesnt want to speak.
Listen to others.
Display original ideas.
Interrupt only by agreeing and never by disagreeing.
Do not speak too less or too much.
Keep your cool

Respect contrary view point


Do not try to appoint a leader.
Utilize the time efficiently.
Difficulty presents an opportunity.
Be different.
Find the remedy.

LUCKY means who get the opportunity!


BRILLIANT means who create the opportunity!
WINNER means who use the opportunity!
