Major Project Briefing

What is Major Project?


Students work as part of a small
group (typically 3) to complete a
piece of substantial project work
Each group is supervised by one
teaching staf
Looks like
its gonna be
a long ten
weeks

Objectives
MP aims to let students:
Have a chance to undergo the entire process of
developing an IT system
Have the opportunity to present and
demonstrate the system
Experience dynamics of working in a team
Apply knowledge and skill gain in the course of
study
Engage in self-directed learning and
independent problem solving

Major Project
Not reflected in timetable
Students expected to be working full
time on MP

Students to arrange time slots for


weekly meetings with supervisor
10 weeks, 10 CU

Major Project
Project & supervisor allocation will be
sent out in due time
Once allocated:
Get in touch with group members
Arrange to meet supervisor ASAP to be
briefed on project and work on the TOR
Arrange timeslot for weekly meeting
No changes allowed to allocations

Dont expect course subjects to have
covered everything you need

Words of Advice
Dont just research DO ACTUAL WORK!
Do enough research to find out what you need,
then move on
Dont use research as an excuse to avoid real
work

Prepare for each weekly meeting with


supervisor
Imagine he/she is customer
Update him/her on progress, plans going
forward, etc.
Take minutes!

limit dependencies on other members
be able to work independently as much as
