Introduction
Energy has always been an issue for sustainability.
The coal reserve, which is the main fossil fuel to generate

electrical power, is estimated to last only for about 200

years more
In regarding this problem, all sorts of sustainable energy
sources like solar, wind and hydro power emerge.
We would like to investigate an alternative energy source:
human power
We can convert the kinetic energy of people walking
over a stairs into electricity.

Project Idea
Now a days there is need to introduce new

reliable power sources.

At the rush areas like railway stations, airports

we can utilize the human power to produce

electricity.

Objectives
To introduce a new power source which is non-

polluting.
To utilize waste human power.
Generation of electricity by the kinetic energy

obtained from footstep.

The electricity that is generated will be able to

be stored and extract anytime.

UN-INTENTIONL
ISLANDING
In the following power system connected to DG if upstream

breaker CB1 is open and DG is connected to the system produce

a un-intentional island

fig. un-intentional islanding

INTENTIONAL ISLAND
When we create a island for different reason mainly to

obtained good power quality for sensitive loads.

poor power quality experienced by loads due to: Outage.
Voltage amplitude out of nominal range.
Voltage inbalence
Frequency out of accepable range.
High level voltage harmonics.
Transient effects: swell, sag, notches, flicker etc.

INTENTIONAL ISLAND
Intentional island is created by opening the

downstream CB as shown below

ISLAND

Mechanism
The linear motion from the pressure or force applied on the

step is converted into rotational motion by means of

mechanical system.
This rotational motion is used to drive a dc generator which
generate 12 v, 300 mA DC supply.
Each step is connected to the driving shaft which is coupled
with a generator.
Generators are connected in parallel so as to add the current
and keep the voltage constant for charging of battery.
By using inverter circuit we convert this dc supply into ac
supply to drive ac load.

Operation
When a person press the stair the clockwise

rotation takes place.

When the pressure release anticlockwise
rotation takes place in this way by using
bridge rectifier we can utilize total power in
both side rotation.

Technical Specification
DC Generator-12V, 300 mA.
IC-1 LM317 (voltage regulator 3-pin IC.)
IC-2 SG3524 (fix frequency PWM power control circuit.)
IC-3 4050 (
Battery 12V, 1.2 AH.
Transformer 12/210 V (Step-up).
LED kit-5W.
CFL- 15W.

Applications
Can be installed at places such as cross over

flyovers wherein mass transit of pedestrians

occurs e.g. railway stations, bus stands,
squares etc.

Advantages
Pollution free electricity generation.
Simple mechanism.
Easy for installation.
This power can be stored in battery array so as to use it

further.
Electricity can used for many purposes

Future Scope
In future aspects we can use this principal in

the speed breakers at high ways where are

rushes of the vehicles too much thus increase
input torque and ultimate output of generator.
If we are used this project at very busy stairs
palace then we produce efficient useful
electrical for large purposes.
