Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility

This document discusses electromagnetic interference and compatibility. It defines EMI as unwanted RF energy causing malfunctions in electronic equipment. Sources can be natural like lightning or manmade like electric switches. Victims include receivers, medical devices, and industrial controls. Careful design is required to ensure compatibility between electronic systems subjected to various EMI sources like power lines, radar, and radio broadcasts. The document provides an example of intersystem EMI and discusses noise computation in the frequency domain. It also outlines the basic components of an EMI situation involving the source, coupling path, and victim and their respective impedances.
