Story Overview
The story I have chosen to do is a folktale from England called the
Golden Arm. The story is about a man and his wife who has a golden
right arm. At the start of the story the man is in need of a wife
because his has jut died. So he goes around the country in search of a
new wife. After doing this for some while he eventually comes across
a woman with a completely golden right arm. He weds the woman
and they live happily for many years. The wife then dies and the man
is widowed again. At the funeral he puts on a sad face and his
blackest of blacks and lowers his wife into her grave. Later that night
however he takes her out of her grave and takes her right arm. Her
golden arm. He returns home with a smile on his face and jumps into
bed with the arm, laying on the pillow next to him. As he drifts off to
sleep he is then waken by the ghost of a woman with her right arm
missing. He asks what happen to her right arm. Then she replies

Production Methods
My primary production technique to create my children's book will
be use rotoscoping. I will use rotoscoping because it will create the
cartoon like feel I would like for my book. Rotoscoping also gives
the possibilities to create quite detailed scenes which an hopefully
immerse the reader more.

Audience
My target audience is children aged from 3-6. it is also aged at the
parents of these children so about 25-35. The gender can be both
male or female. The average class for patents who have read or
would buy a children's book is lower middle class. The location for
these people is east Anglia. They also enjoy films such as Charlie
and the chocolate factory and TV shows such as American Horror
Story.

19th November 2016

What are the strengths of the proposal?

What areas of the proposal need further work?

The proposal is supported by the idea generating which

allows a more clear and understanding view on the final
idea.
The proposal is very clear and it is really easy to be able to
see all of the different ideas come together and form one
final idea which is more put together and finalised. Which
also shows that you have a clear idea of what you want it to
be like.
The story overview is very advanced and has a lot of depth
to it which shows that you have a full understanding of the
story and what is going on.

When talking about the production you could go

into more depth about how you plan on making it
and maybe give more reasons why.

What are the strengths of the idea generation?

What areas of idea generation could have been

further developed?

There is a lot of detail in the idea generation and

you can see the development of original ideas
turning into more detailed final ideas.
You can see a lot of the ideas in different formats,
meaning that you can see the ideas develop from
bullet point words, to image representation to
finally being in the proposal.

More photographs could be added to show other

techniques and style of work, this will allow you to
explore potential ideas and will look like you have
done more research.

What are the strengths of the proposal?

What areas of the proposal need further work?

A clear idea of what will happen in the story and

even how it will be made, the reasoning for this
way is clearly stated. The audience is made clear
as well as who will be buying the product. You
know the dimensions of the pages and the amount
of pages you will be using.

Explain what you will be rotoscoping, so that it is

clearer what style you will be doing. The audience
part of your proposal should explain why it would
appeal to children more than the adults.

What are the strengths of the idea generation?

What areas of idea generation could have been

further developed?

Clear idea of location and a wide variety of

character looks. You clearly know your story and
how it should go, along with the pros, and cons of
the story line.

Explain/ explore the layout of your texts and

images on your page, also look at fonts as this can
effect aesthetic of the final book.

What are the strengths of the proposal?

What areas of the proposal need further work?

Clear idea shown about what will happen and

techniques used and how. Audience is clear and it
is obvious a lot of research has gone into this.

Explain what you are going to be using your

techniques on e.g. what will you rotoscope?

What are the strengths of the idea generation?

What areas of idea generation could have been

further developed?

Clear idea of story and what will happen.

Organised well and very clear that there is a good
understanding about pros and cons of this story.
Good, wide variety of character looks and
locations.

Not too much evidence of the exploration of

different ideas. Explain what else was looked at
and how you came to decide on this story and why.

Feedback Summary
Sum up your feedback.
The feedback I received was mainly good however I do have parts on
which need work. I need to explain why have chosen to use
rotoscoping more. More photographs could be added to my mood
boards. Explain why my book show appeal to the adults as well as the
children.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
I agree that I could explain more about rotoscoping and why I want to
use that as my primary production style.

Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?

I disagree with the point that I could add more photographs to my
mood board. I fell I dont need anymore pictures because I have
covered all of the locations and the clothing and how people look from
that time period.

Original Script
Here was once a man who travelled the land all over in search of a wife. He saw
young and old, rich and poor, pretty and plain, and could not meet with one to his
mind. At last he found a woman, young, fair, and rich, who possessed a right arm
of solid gold. He married her at once, and thought no man so fortunate as he was.
They lived happily together, but, though he wished people to think otherwise, he
was fonder of the golden arm than of all his wife's gifts besides.
At last she died. The husband put on the blackest black, and pulled the longest
face at the funeral; but for all that he got up in the middle of the night, dug up the
body, and cut off the golden arm. He hurried home to hide his treasure, and
thought no one would know.
The following night he put the golden arm under his pillow, and was just falling
asleep, when the ghost of his dead wife glided into the room. Stalking up to the
bedside it drew the curtain, and looked at him reproachfully. Pretending not to be
afraid, he spoke to the ghost, and said: "What hast thou done with thy cheeks so
red?"
"All withered and wasted away," replied the ghost, in a hollow tone.
"What hast thou done with thy red rosy lips?"
"All withered and wasted away."
"What hast thou done with thy golden hair?"
"All withered and wasted away."
"What hast thou done with thy Golden Arm?
"THOU HAST IT!
