CE 551 Finite Element Analysis: Dr. James N. Craddock ENGR B-26 Craddock@ce - Siu.sdu 453-7808

This document provides an introduction to the CE 551 Finite Element Analysis course. It includes 3 key points: 1) It reviews topics in linear algebra and matrix operations that are relevant to finite element analysis, such as different matrix operations, solving systems of linear equations, and stress-strain relationships. 2) It introduces the governing equations for stress equilibrium, strain-displacement, and stress-strain relationships for linear elastic finite element analysis. 3) It discusses different methods that can be used to solve the systems of linear algebraic equations derived from finite element discretization, including Cramer's rule, matrix inversion, Gaussian elimination, and Gauss-Seidel iteration.
