Elements of Dance
DESIGN IN SPACE the body is the medium of expression and the main instrument through which the students can express their ideas, message and feelings. it includes level (high, middle, low), direction (forward, backward, sideward), size (big or small), place (on the spot or through space), focus (direction of gaze/eyesight), and pathway (curved or straight)
DYNAMICS OR FORCE the bodys exertion trough space. It describes the character of the movement as being sharp or smooth, heavy or light, tight or loose, and tensed or relaxed
RHYTHM OR TIME the whole is framed like in music. Beat (underlying pulse), tempo (fast or slow), accent (a difference or contrast in stress), duration (long or short), and patter (combinations).
MOTIVATION the impetus for the body movement. It is the way the mover feels inside, the story behind the movement, the reason why the person moved in a certain way.
