Concentra Tion: Names: Yasna Bustos Valentina Silva Teacher: Miss Margarita Urbina Course: Técnico en Minería

This document discusses various methods of concentration used in mineral processing, including optical separation, gravity separation, flotation separation, magnetic separation, and electrostatic separation. It provides details on each method, such as how optical separation uses cameras and sensors to separate materials by properties like color, size and shape. Gravity separation relies on differences in specific weight to separate components of a mixture using gravity. Flotation separation uses froth flotation to separate mineral particles from waste material. Magnetic separation concentrates minerals based on their differing magnetic susceptibilities. Electrostatic separation also separates minerals and other materials based on their electrical properties.

What is Concentratio

Concentration processes have to enrich the

ores or economically useful species in a
mineralogical ore by removing the sterile
components, or gangue, and separate them
from each other, if they occur in combination,
using physical properties features minerals.

METHODS OF
CONCENTRATION

OPTICAL
SEPARATION

Optical separation is the automated process of sorting solid

products using cameras and/or lasers. Depending on the
types of sensors used and the software driven intelligence of
the image processing system, optical sorters can recognize
objects color, size, shape, structural properties and chemical
composition. The sorter compares objects to user defined
accept/reject criteria to identify and remove defective
products and foreign material from the production line, or to
separate product of different grades or types of materials.

GRAVITY
SEPARATION

Gravity separationis an industrial method of separating two

components, either a suspension, or dry granular mixture
where separating the components with gravity is sufficiently
practical the components of the mixture have different
specific weight. All of the gravitational methods are common
in the sense that they all use gravity as the dominant force .

FLOTATION
SEPARATION

Flotation process,in mineral treatment and mining, process

for concentrating the metal bearing mineral in anore. Crude
ore is ground to a fine powder and mixed with water, frothing
reagents, and collecting reagents. When air is blown through
the mixture, mineral particles cling to the bubbles, which rise
to form a froth on the surface. The waste material (gangue)
settles to the bottom. The froth is skimmed off, and the water
and chemicals are distilled or other wise removed, leaving a
clean concentrate. The process, also called the froth-flotation
process, is used for a number of minerals, especially silver.

MAGNETIC
SEPARATION

Process utilized for to concentrate minerals that it has

difference in her magnetic susceptibility, that answers in
different form to the application of a camp magnetic .
According to its magnetic susceptibility the minerals can be
classified as :
Paramagnetic: Are to materials
that experiment
magnetization under the application of a magnetic field,
some of the they are : iImenite (FeTiO3), Hematite (Fe2O3),
Pirrotite (Fe11S12).
Ferromagnetic: Are materials that experienced at high
paramagnetismo for applying magnetic field, some which are
son el Fe y the magnetite (Fe3O4).
Diamagnetic: are materials are repelling magnetic field
,some
of
which
are:
quartz
(SiO2),
Feldespar

SEPARATION OF LOW
INTENSITY
This type of process is utilized for to separate minerals
ferromagnetics
or
paramagnetics,
of
the
mineral
diamagnetics. Give that the force of magnetization that is
produce under each the particles of the species magnetics
(ferromagnetics or paramagnetics) is so high, its require that
under the particles act forces like the hidrodinaminamcs and
the centrifugal, adicionality to the gravity force, with the final
purpose of to get a process enough selective. For this
reason
this process
generally process generally it is
performed in half damp and equipment drum rotatory.

SEPARATION OF HIGH
INTENSITY
This process generally its utilized for to separate species
paramagnetics of species diamagnetics.
Given that the magnetic force that experiment the particles
paramagnetics generally is
weak , this
process usually
performed in dry and in en equipment not rotates, with the
final purpose of avoid hydrodynamics forces and the
centrifugals forces, nevertheless, when the species magnetic to
performed a high paramagnetism, the process can be carried
out in half damp

ELECTROSTATI
C SEPARATION

Electrostatic separation is important in the

production of minerals, also in the reclamation of
other valuable materials, as well as the cleaning of
some food products. when every effort is being
made by process engineers to make use of all
concentrating equipment available for the recovery
of critical minerals and reclaimed materials, the
subject of applied electrostatic separation is of
interest
