What is
Procedure Text ?
There are three definitions of
"general" of the procedure text :
(1)Texts that explain how something
works or how to use instruction /
operation manuals e.g. how to use
the video, the computer, the tape
recorder, the photocopier, the fax.
(2) Texts that instruct how to do a
particular activity e.g. recipes, rules
for games, science experiments,
road safety rules. (3) Texts that deal
with human behaviour eg how to
live happily, how to succeed.etc

How to learn Procedure Text

The generic structures of procedure text are


:
1. Goal/aim
2. Materials
3. Steps

The Characteristic linguistic of Procedure Text the


Procedure Text,
Use imperative sentences (commands), for example, Cut, Do
not mix, and so on.
Using action verbs, such as turn, put, do not, mix, etc..
Using connectives (conjunctions) to sort of activity, for
example then, while, etc..
Using adverbials (adverbs) to declare the detailed
time, place, an accurate way, for example, for five
minutes, 2 hours, etc.
Using the Simple Present.

3 The Example of Procedure Text


1 Goal/aim :
How to make pancake
2. Ingredients:
3 4 spoonful of flour
2 eggs
1 (250 ml) of milk
1 stick of butter
3. Materials:
1 mixing bowl
2 table spoons
2 cups
1 small pan
Procedure:
Put the flour in the bowl.
Put milk in a cup.
Make sure it's 250 ml of milk.
Put the milk in the bowl.
Break the 2 eggs into the bowl.
Mix it with a spoon.

Heat up the pan and put the


butter
Put the mix in the pan.
Let the pancake mix cook
about 5 minutes.
Flip pancake over when the top
is brown.
And your pancake its ready to
be serve

A. Struktur kebahasaan Procedure Text:


1. Aim/ Goal(judul )
Pada struktur kebahasaan bagian pertama dari Procdeure Text
ini berisi informasi mengenai tujuan dalam pembuatan atau
pengoprasian sesuatu. (Dapat berupa judul)
2. Material (tidak berlaku pada semua procedural text)
Material adalah alat atau sesuatu yang diperlukan dalam proses
pada langkah-langkah.

3 Steps
Pada bagian steps, berisi tentang langkah-langkah atau urutanurutan yang harus dilakukan agar tujuan yang diuraikan pada
bagian Aim/ Goal bisa tercapai. Langkah-langkah atau urutanurutan tersebut haruslah urut dari yang pertama hingga
terakhir.

Bahan Ada tiga jenis teks prosedural yang tidak menggunakan


bahan-bahan, yaitu:
teks prosedural yang mengidentifikasi bagaimana melakukan
instruksi manual. Misalnya: Cara menggunakan video game,
komputer, dll
Procedural Text yang menginstruksikan bagaimana melakukan
aktivitas-aktivitas tertentu dengan peraturanya. Contohnya : road
safety rules, video game rules, etc.
Procedural Text yang berhubungan dengan sifat atau kebiasaan
manusia. Contohnya How to live happily, atau How to secceed.

Ciri Kebahasaan Procedure Text


Menggunakan pola kalimat imperative (Perintah), misalnya, Cut,
Dont mix, dsb.
Menggunakan action verbs, misalnya turn, put, dont, mix,
dsb.
Menggunakan connectives (kata penghubung) untuk
mengurutkan kegiatan, misalnya then, while, dsb.
Menggunakan adverbials (kata keterangan) untuk
menyatakan rinci waktu, tempat, cara yang akurat,
misalnya for five minutes, 2 hours, dsb.
Menggunakan simple present.
