laboratory is a place for serious
work.
All students are expected to
come on time. A student is
expected to be at his/her
assigned work area at the
beginning of the laboratory
period and to remain with
his/her group until the end of

All students are expected to
come to the laboratory in their
school uniform. For Integrated
Science, Biology and Chemistry
classes, students are required
to wear a laboratory apron
during the entire period to
protect them from any danger.

Only assigned experiments are
to be performed in the
laboratory during the laboratory
period. Unauthorized
experiments are prohibited. If
you should desire to perform an
activity for your Investigative
Projects, secure an approval
from your teacher.

Requisition forms are available
at the custodians table. Fill out
the form with the materials you
need for the experiment and
have it checked by the custodian
before getting any apparatus, at
the end of the period In case of
losses or breakages, students
have to replace the same kind
material.

Malfunctioning of the equipment and
breakage of the materials or apparatus
during the activity must be reported
immediately to the custodian.
Avoid spillage, but if you do spill
something, clean it up immediately. Solid
material should be put in the waste cans.
Only liquids are to be poured in the sink.
Strong acids are to be poured in a pot of
soil. Never discard matches, filter papers
or any slightly soluble solids in the sink.

Observe orderliness and
cleanliness at all times inside
the laboratory. The student
must clean the equipment and
material or special apparatus at
the end of the activity period
and return to its proper place
for quantity checking of the
custodian.

GUIDELINES IN
BORROWING
MATERIALS

Faculty and students should therefore abide


by the policies and procedure set up by the
list.
Request for materials to be used must be two
days before the actual activity. (Requisition
forms are available at the Custodians table)
List down all the needed materials, supplies,
apparatus and/or equipment that you will be
using for your activity (complete
specifications such as volume, quantity, sizes,
etc.) Fill-up requisition form written to your
name with the signature of your teacher.

Instant request will not be entertained. Inspect


entire requested item at least 30 minutes before classes
start.
For robotics material, check the contents of the Lego
blocks or Robot materials before and after the activity.
The number indicated in the Lego or Robot Contents
should match with the actual number of blocks / parts per
case. Robotics material has a guideline to be followed.
(Please see the Standard Operating Procedures on the
use of Robotics Equipment).
In case the students requisition is in line with their
researches, the teachers will endorse a list of materials to
the custodian to check the items availability. If available,
students will be instructed to fill up the requisition form
written to his name or group with the signature of your
teacher.

LABORATORY
SAFETY

A. GENERAL SAFETY
Read through the procedure before starting the
experiment. Wait for your teacher to direct to begin
working.
Never consume food or beverages during your laboratory
period.
Familiarize yourself within the location of the safety
shower, fire blanket, fire extinguisher and first aid kit and
learn how to use them.
Report all spills, accidents or injuries to your teacher
immediately.
Turn off all gas outlets and water faucets after use and
check them before leaving the laboratory

B. SAFETY WITH HEAT


Put out the flame as soon as you finished using it.
Never leave the burner or an alcohol lamp unattended.
Use matchsticks, lighter, or a piece of paper to light an alcohol
lamp or a burner.
Keep all flammable materials away from the burning flame. DO
NOT put any object into the flame unless told to do so
Never point the mouth of the test tube at yourself or anybody
else when heating substance in a test tube.
Use only tongs, holders and pads to hold or move hot
glassware. Hot glass always looks like cold glass.
Keep materials away from an open flame. Hair should be tied
back

C. SAFETY WITH ELECTRICITY


Always handle electrical equipment
with dry hands and use a dry work
area.
Pull the plug out not the cord when
unplugging electrical equipment.
Report any cases of loose
connections, exposed wires, and
frayed cords immediately.

D. SAFETY WITH GLASSWARES


Lubricate glass tubing and
thermometers before inserting
them gently into the stopper.
Always use glassware that is
clean, dry and not crack. Handle
glassware with care.
Laboratory glassware should never
be used as food or drink container.

E. SAFETY WITH CHEMICALS


Use only the amount of chemicals called for you in your guide.
Do not pour excess chemicals back into their containers. Read
carefully the labels of the reagent before using it.
Always add acid to the water, pouring slowly in small
quantities and at a time stirring constantly.
Use stirring rod to guide the flow of the liquid when
transferring liquids from one container to another. When using
a pipette, use a suction bulb not your mouth.
Never taste or touch a chemicals or solution unless directed to
do so.
When observing the odor of the substance, do not hold your
face directly over the container. Fan a little of the vapor toward
you by sweeping your hand over the top of the container.
Wear protective eye goggles when handling dangerous
chemicals. Use the fume hood when directed
