Academy Figure
An academy figure is a drawing,
painting or sculpture of the nude
human body executed after a live
model, typically at half life size.
It is a common exercise required
of students at art schools and
academies, both in the past and
the present, hence the name.

CARICATURE
A simple lined humorous or
satirical drawing that simplifies
or exaggerates a person or an
event.

CARTOON
A simple comic drawing designed
to tell a story and evoke emotions
and consists of one or more frames
with captions.

Fashion Illustration
Fashion illustration is the
communication of fashion that
originates with illustration, drawing
and painting.
It is usually commissioned for
reproduction in fashion magazines.

Figure Drawing
A figure drawing is a study of the
human form in its various shapes
and body postures sitting,
standing or even sleeping.

Gesture Drawing
A gesture drawing is a work of art
defined by rapid execution.
It may be any drawing which
attempts to capture action or
movement.

Line Art
Images that consist of distinct
straight and curved lines placed
against a (usually plain)
background, without gradations in
shade (darkness) or hue (color).

Portrait
A portrait is a painting,
photograph, sculpture, or other
artistic representation of a person,
in which the face and its
expression is predominant.

Scratchboard
Scratchboard drawings are created
using sharp knives and tools for
etching into a thin layer of china
clay that is coated with black
Indian ink.

Silhouette
A silhouette is the image of a
person, an object or a scene
represented as a single colour,
usually black, its edges matching
the outline of the silhouette.

Silverpoint
Silverpoint is a traditional drawing
technique first used by Medieval
scribes on manuscripts.

Sketch
A sketch is a rapidly executed
freehand drawing that is usually
not intended as a finished work.

Stick Figure
A stick figure is a very simple
drawing of a person or animal,
composed of a few lines and dots.

measures.
