CNC 4 & 5 Axis

This document discusses CNC 4 & 5 axis milling machines. It introduces CAD/CAM software that is used to design geometries and define tool paths. The objectives are to study the CNC milling process, operate 4 & 5 axis machines, learn machining strategies using Powermill software, design products using CATIA, generate NC programs, and create 3D models. It also describes cutting tools, holders, tool setup, and various machining strategies. The advantages include better surface finish and tool life while disadvantages are training costs and expensive tools. In conclusion, CNC machines can manufacture anything but require designing, operating, and learning the manufacturing process from design to finished product.

INTRODUCTION
CAD/CAM

CAD/CAM is a shortening of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and

Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM).
software uses CAD drawing tools to describe geometries
CAM portion of the program to define a tool path that will direct the
motion

OBJECTIVE

To study the cam process for 4 & 5 axis cnc milling machine.

To operate 4 & 5 axis cnc milling machine

To learn how to planning for machining strategies by using Power mil

software.

To learn how to design the product using CATIA.

To learn how to transfer to NC program.

To learn how to tolerate with other group members.

To create 3D model using Catia software.

To post-processing to generated NC program (ISO code)

Machining Technology

Machining is any process in which a cutting tool is used to remove small chips
of material from the workpiece

Relative motion is required between the tool and the work

The shape of the tool and its penetration into the work surface

combined with these motions, produce the desired shape of the resulting
work surface.

the tool work with axis that move along table

Cutting Tool 4 & 5 Axis

=Cnc Milling=

Cutting tools with inserts

The cutting edge consists of a separate piece of material

Common materials for tips includecemented carbide, polycrystalline diamond,
and cubic boron nitride

Solid Cutting Tools

The typical tool for milling and drilling has no changeable insert
The cutting edge and the shank is one unit and built of the same material

Holder

To use a cutting tool within a CNC machine there is a basic holder.

Two types of holder, shank taper (SK) and hollow shank taper (HSK).

Tool setup

The detailed instruction how to combine the tool assembly out of basic holder.
Tool and insert can be stored in atool management solution.

MACHINING STRATEGIES

Powerful 3D CAM product that generates optimum roughing and finishing CNC
toolpaths.

With demands for ever-shorter lead times and improve quality.

High Speed Machining (HSM) is now common place in many mold.

tool and die shops both in the CAD/CAM office and on the shop floor to
machine hard materials with increased feed rates.

Machining strategies is a technological leader in this area with many unique

strategies.

Can generating world class machining program.

ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE

ADVANTAGES

Better surface finish

Longer tool life

Allows tool to reach difficult places smoothly

Impressive but slow avoid if possible

Possibly most important is the ability to machine complex shape in a single

setup

5-axis machining also enables shorter cutting tools to be used since the head
can be lowered towards the job and the cutter oriented towards the surface

Higher cutting speed can be achieved and the vibration of the tool is reduced

DISADVANTAGE

Have to train people to use the software

Expensive implementation

High maintenance costs

Cutting tool to expensive

CONCLUSION

Cnc machine 4 & 5 axis is a great technology that can manufacture anything

we operate it we need to design the product or NC program

we learn how to operate machine by our own

We learn how the factory environment running from designing to the product
finished

we learn how to discharge the responsibilities on the good way.

THE END AND HAVE A NICE DAY , CHOW
