NFC Technology
NFC Technology Near Field Communication
(NFC) is an evolution of contactless and shortrange radio frequency identification (RFID)
technologies.
NFC enables easy and intuitive ways of using
mobile phones with touch-based technology
operating at a distance of only a few
centimeters.
NFC is based on pre-existing contactless
payment and ticketing standards that are used
on a daily basis by millions of people and
devices
History:
1983 Abbreviation of RFID2004 Establishment of The Near Field
Communication (NFC) Forum.
2006 Initial Specifications for NFC Tags.
2009 In January, NFC releases Peer-to-Peer
Standards.
2010 First Android NFC Phone
2011 Demonstration of NFC
By 2011 NFC-enabled mobile phones are
expected to reach 500 million worldwide.
Benefits & Features:
Not restricted to 1-to-1 communication
Multiple devices in a small area can
communicate with each other using the
same frequency.
Maximum transfer bit rate of 800kbps.
No special software is required.
Operation at a frequency of 13.56 MHz range.
Compatible with todays field proven
RFID technology
Operating distance of up to 20 cm,
typically even less.
SYSTEM OVERVIEW:
METHODOLOGY:
Secret code is entered from the
keyboard.
Decoder connected to the keyboard
will read this number and if the number
entered is correct then the number
decoder will trigger the MC whose
output will go high. This high output will
activate the reading system.
NFC Modes:
Comparision:
NFC Communication
modes:
Active NFC mode
In active NFC mode, both the initiator and the
target are using their own generated RF field to
enable the communication.
INITIATOR SENDS COMMAND
ANSWER
TARGET SENDS
Passive NFC mode
In passive NFC mode, the target answers to an
initiator command in a load modulation scheme.
The initiator generates the RF field and target
uses the RF field generated by the active device

Advanatages of NFC:
Ease of use
Decreasing the amount of user made errors
Compatibility
Versatile technology
Ability to decrease or eliminate duplicate
work
Less set up time
Disadvantages Of NFC:
Easy to hack
Short limited distance
Example:
Future Hardware
Development:
Less power consumption
More efficient loop antenna for
larger range.
Smaller setup
Two-way communication
Results:
Maximum bit rate of 800kbps
Text communication between
two PCs
Transmission range of 30cm
Ability to send a text file
between PCs
Conclusion:
In summary, Near Field Communication is an
efficient technology for communication with
with short ranges.
It offers an intuitive and simple way to transfer
data between electronic devices.
A significant advantage of this technique is the
compatibility with existing RFID infrastructures.
