Task 5 Part Two
Task 5 Part Two
FOR MY MAGAZINE
NAMES
Sound Wave
Distinct
(this is a strong
name which could
symbolise the
rebellion of the hip
hop genre and I also
think that my target
audience will prefer
this as it is short yet
powerful)
Loud
(this is a name that
symbolises loudness which
could represent fierceness
which relates to the Hip
Hop conventions as a
genre)
Pure Sound
(this is a calmer less
significant name for the hip
hop genre so I may not
consider this one because
it will not relate to my
audience and is a
disadvantage when I need
to use connotation of my
ideas)
Name
s
Volume
(this is a name that
symbolises loudness too
which could represent
what the audience aspire
to be)
FONTS
I am going to use fonts such as Broadway or Impact for the masthead because these are
bold lettering and will stand out to catch my readers attention. These types of fonts give
off the denotation that it is solid, strong and has character - this will relate to my genre of
magazine as Hip Hop artists are down to earth but also quite hard and powerful with
character, giving it a relatable connotation. It is quite a modernised font styles as this will
give off the impression that it is a magazine targeted for an up-to-date audience, this
would apply to teenagers and young adults who find keeping up to date an important
factor. The lettering has little space between the curves of each letter and the letters can
often seem blocky and thick, this could give the connotation of something strong that will
not break, this relates to the muscley male characters that are often represented in a
strong way. My masthead will have a boarder because it will stand out against the
conventional white background I am considering. My masthead will be the font colour of
black it will mostly stand out against any colour background but I will take the colour of
my masthead into consideration when choosing my main colour scheme. I will also make
sure that I consider font size due to the fact it will need to be readable for my audience,
especially the masthead as this will need to be seen from a distance. However if I choose
to use a one lettered masthead which is conventionally something Hip Hop tends to use I
will need to make sure my font has personality to stand out on its own and to represent
the character represented on the front.
COLOURS
The colours I decide to choose for my fonts will need to be complementary
towards the colours I decide for my branding. I am considering going with the
idea of pastel orange and a dark blue for my colour scheme, I will need to
consider this for my font colour as this will need to be readable on top of these
colours. The best outcome for this would be to use a black or white font as
these will both stand out towards my bolder background colours. I have chosen
white, black and dark off colour red because they are primary and
complementary colours that will benefit the eye. If white becomes hard to read
yet I may wish to use white font in a certain area, I may want to consider using
a shadow or a stroke to make it more visible to my readers eye. Orange and
blue is also a consideration as these are much different from the mainstream
magazines at the moment. These colours will give the typical impression and
conventions of a Hip Hop magazine whereas orange may only be beneficial to
some readers eyes which is why it is only a consideration, it also doesnt give a
denotation or connotation of a Hip Hop genre. Although orange is typically
known as bright I may need to choose the darker colours such as black and red
to follow conventions, giving the meaning of determination and a strong,
controlled, perfected vision.
I like how the image is related to the colour scheme in some way,
the design is also very simplistic which clears an audiences mind
in reading the article, the image is very careless which links to
the Hip Hop genre. I will remember to link my colour scheme with
my main double page spread image to create branding.
