Power Generation Using Wind Energy Produced by Trains

This document describes a project that aims to generate electricity from wind energy produced by fast moving trains. The project team plans to place wind turbine generators along rail tracks so that the wind caused by passing trains can be harnessed to generate power. This approach provides a low-cost and simple way to utilize unused wind energy for power generation. The turbines would consist of aluminum blades, wooden discs, cast iron grids, and 12V DC motors, and initial tests show a setup can produce 5V of power from a passing train. At scale along rail lines, the project aims to cost-effectively capture wind energy and provide power for nearby railway stations.

The prime aim of this project is to utilise the wasted
renewable energy in a constructive manner(i.e, power
generation)

The renewable energy governing this project is
WIND ENERGY

Although nature does a mighty fine job of stirring up
vast amounts of usable wind energy, humans whip up
a fair bit it of themselves.

The ultimate scope of this project is to generate
electric power by the utilisation of wind energy
produced due to the motion of fast moving trains.

Effective utilisation of renewable resources.

Simpler, cost efficient way of power generation.
The energy from the wind has been harnessed since early
recorded history all across the world. There are proofs that
wind energy propelled boats along the Nile River around 5000
B.C. The use of wind to provide mechanical power came
somewhat later in time , a strong focus on technical
improvements enabled wind power to be leveraged by the
people in the Middle East .

The popularity of using the wind energy has always fluctuated
with the price of fossil fuels. When fuel prices fell in the late
1940s, interest in wind turbines decreased, but when the price
of oil skyrocketed in the 1970s, so did worldwide interest in
wind turbine generators.

There are ample amount of systems which utilise
renewable energy resources for the generation of
power.
Some of them are:
Nuclear power generation plants
Thermal power generation plants
Wind power generation plants
Solar power generation plants
Tidal power generation plants

The field of energy concentrated in this project is
WIND ENERGY.
Wind power generation plants: generates
power by trapping winds.

This project is employed with certain modifications
in the existing power generation techniques.
This is mainly done in view of the following factors:
Cost reduction
Facilitation of all classes of people
Compact design that can be employed anywhere,
provided considerable wind energy is present.
Effective utilization of unused wind energy.

As a fact, behind all successful systems there exists
some problems when they are operated on the long
run.
Here, The problem with the existing system are as
follows:
High investment cost.
Requires a lot of land.
Ample labour support requirement etc.

Our project is mainly concentrated in areas where
vehicular traffic is atmost(i.e, road traffic, rail traffic)

The project is governed by the principle same as that
of a wind turbine.

A series of the setup weve designed is planned to be
kept along the traffic so that a considerable amount
of electric power can be generated.
Blades : aluminium
Disc : wooden disc
Supporting : cast iron
grids
Generators : 12v dc motor
It is expected that this setup can produce a voltage of
5 volts when a train passes across it for about
20seconds and it is demonstrated.

On the long run a series of this setup can be placed
for a certain distance and can be coupled together to
produce a large amplitude of electricity.

Initial cost is low.
Easy in construction.
Use of renewable energy.
The power generated can be utilized nearby
railway stations, in level crossing workers
room.
Can be used for signals.
Compact in size

This setup can be placed in tall buildings.

This setup can be placed beneath the tracks.

It can be placed in medians where vehicles
will be in continuous motion.
