ANTERIOR TRIANGLE OF NECK

Surface anatomy:
Draw a finger down the ant. median line of the neck from chin to
sternum.
-body of hyoid bone. Approx. 1 cm below and 6 cm behind the chin
-.(laryngeal prom /adam’s apple)
sharp protuberance of ant. border of thyroid cartilage of larynx
-rounded arch of cricoid cartilage below thyroid cartilage
-rings of trachea which are partly masked by the isthmus of thyroid
gland.
-grasp you hyoid bone between the fingers and thumb trace it
backwards to the greater horns.
-press the tip of your fingers into your neck along a line from the mastoid
process towards the shoulder. The deep bony resistance is due to
transverse process of cervical vertebrae.
Anterior Triangle
Triangular area on
each side of the
neck in front of
SCM.

Boundaries:
Sub divisions of ant.
Triangle.
Subdivided by digastric
and sup.belly of
omohyoid m.:
- Submental
- Digastric
- Carotid
- Muscular.
Triangle is covered
by
1) Skin
2) Sup.fascia
3) Platysma
4) Deep fascia
Deep Cervical Fascia:
Syn. Fascia colli.
It is the deep fascia of neck
which forms
general investment for
muscles ,vessels, viscera and
nerves of this region.
In certain areas it is condensed
to form well defined fibrous
sheath.
a) investing layer
b) pre- tracheal layer
c) pre -vertebral layer
Carotid sheath

It is a tubular
condensation of
deep cervical
fascia.
