BASIC COMPUTER CONCEPT
The first tools used for counting were
man's own fingers (digit) ABACUS The first known mechanical computing device invented by man was the abacus. NAPIERS BONE Developed in 1614 by John Napier. It is a computing device used for multiplication and division of large numbers. PASCALINE Develop in 1642 by Blaise Pascal. It comes with eight rotating gear with each wheel representing places in the decimal system LEIBNITZS CALCULATOR It is an improved pascaline developed by Gottfried Leibniz in 1671. It can multiply, divide, add and subtract numbers. It was invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1801. Jacquards Loom uses punch cards to program designs on fabrics and carpets. In 1822, Charles Babbage designed the Difference Engine. It can compute many useful sets of numbers ANALYTICAL ENGINE The mechanical general-purpose computer which led to the origination of the Analytical Engine. It was described in 1837 but never completed. TABULATING MACHINE Invented by an American inventor, Herman Hollerith in 1890. This machine uses a punched card that can be electronically read to process high volumes of data. ABC (Atanasoft-Berry Computer) John Vincent Atanasoff and Clifford Berry invented the first electronic-digital computer called ABC (Atanasoff-Berry Computer) EDVAC ( Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer automatically addition, subtraction, multiplication, programmed division and automatic checking, also developed by John William Mauchly and John Presper Eckert in 1944. ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer
It was the first electronic digital computer which is big and noisy. It can perform long calculations in an hour. It was also developed by Eckert and Mauchly. Introduced by Eckert- Mauchly Computer Corporation and was completed by Remington Rand. It was the first commercial computer that can perform 10,000 calculations per second. UNIVAC (Universal Automatic Calculator)
It was considered the most expensive and fastest type of computer SUPERCOMPUTER
slower, less powerful and less expensive than supercomputers. It can support hundreds or thousands of users. MAINFRAME COMPUTER
describe the small third generation computers MINICOMPUTER
Desktop computer is a personal computer (PC) intended for regular use at a single location. Desktop model computers are broad and low. DESKTOP COMPUTER
designed for mobile use and is small and light enough to sit on a persons lap. The first laptop computer was invented in 1981 by Adam Osborne, which is named Osborne LAPTOP COMPUTER
Other names for palmtops are handheld computers, pocket computers and PDA(Personal Digital Assistant). PALMTOP COMPUTER
Mobile devices are small enough to carry in a pocket. Aside from its telephone capability, it is also internet- enabled. MOBILE DEVICES
a special type of notebook computer that allows you to write or draw on the screen using a digital pen or also called stylus..
