Lighting: Our lighting at the start is dark and moody displaying male environments as dangerous and rough. This supports the traditional male representation within gender and displays them as intimidating and violent. However during the dialogue the lighting becomes very bright and clear communicating a far more friendly environment and therefore creating a more modern representation of the men within the opening. It is also supporting the gangsters representation of working/operating within rough and unappealing area Props: In our opening a knife was used. The choice of this prop displayed men as violent, damaging and harmful. This is supporting the traditional male stereotype of instable dangerous behaviour. Furthermore it also supports the representation of gangsters as they are commonly associated with murder and crime. Costume: The costume used are casual clothes. The choice of placing males within this costume allows for them to come across as offhand and laid back. This is a traditional representation of the male gender as not being very concerned with appearance but instead their attire reflecting their role and position within gangsters representations. Actors: All of actors are male showing that the media is male dominated in terms of both the protagonists and antagonists. Showing a support that men follow the traditional representation of dominance and influence. Furthermore it also links to the typical gangs being made up of mostly male members and also being run by them.

Camera Shots and Movements

Shot Types and movements: Two shots are mostly used within our opening in order to show conflict and confrontation between our two male leads. Furthermore many over the shoulder shots are used for the male characters asking the audience to identify and relate to them. Showing further the male dominance and influence in media. Moreover low angle shots are used to communicate power and its exchange between the two lead males. The low angle shots looking up at the males shows their power and influence over each other but also their confrontation. This is a traditional image of gangsters as violent and threatening. Furthermore it also represents the male gender stereotype of power and violence. In addition the lack of close ups shows the males as unemotional and cold as you never see their true emotions of their face. This is a traditional representation of males as dispassionate and being reluctant to show emotion. Finally the use of a pan down to reveal the knife props shows further tension and apprehension between the two main characters. Even further supporting the idea of the animalistic and aggressive male

Editing and Sound

Sound: The dialogue in our opening reflects the aggression and passion that is typically represented within the male stereotype. It shows traditional use of swear words and insults. Displaying men as angry and harsh The music however at the beginning is soft and foreboding breaking typical gender conventions. It shows the males as vulnerable and emotional. However during the fight scene the music becomes louder and far more aggressive reflecting the conventions that it is attempting to reflect to in the traditional male. Edits: Most of the edits focus on the male and frequently cut back to them. This focuses on their dominance within society and the media showing a traditional representation. Moreover the choice of a freeze-frame edit on the main male character further emphasises his importance and influence within the film and also his power. This further backs up the traditional representation of males.
