02 Summation Notation

This document defines summation notation and provides three rules for using it. Summation notation represents the sum of values of a variable from a lower limit to an upper limit. The three rules are: 1) the sum of sums is the sum of the individual sums, 2) the sum of a constant is that constant multiplied by the number of terms, and 3) multiplying the sum by a constant equals the constant multiplied by the individual sums. Examples demonstrate calculating various sums.
