7-Jan-14 RTTC Jaipur - HKT 20
Architecture
The DSLAMs will in general be collocated with existing PSTN exchanges which provide last mile access to customers over copper wire up to average span lengths of 3 kms. All DSLAMs will be aggregated through a FE interface except 480 port DSLAM, Which will be aggregated through Gigabit Ethernet Interface. The 240 port DSLAM will have two number of FE interface. The FX or GBIC module in DSLAM and LAN switch should be capable of driving upto 10km on a single mode fibre. The SX or GBIC module in LAN Switch used for connecting Tier2 to Tier1 will support 40km. In bigger cities like A1, A2, A3 and A4,one BBRAS per city will be deployed initially. There will be no BBRAS at B1 and B2 cities. The DSLAMs in B1.B2 and other lower hierarchical cities will be aggregated through Layer 2 switches, and will be connected to the nearest BBRAS of A cities on Ethernet over SDH. The BRAS shall terminate the PPP sessions initiated by the customer and extend the 7-Jan-14 further to MPLS VPN/ Internet RTTC Jaipur - HKT connection as desired by the the customer.

Multiplay Network :- The Multiplay network is a three tier Architecture consisting of the Access Network, Aggregation Network and Core & Content Delivery Network.
7-Jan-14
29
Access Network
It contains the DSLAMs of various port capacities aggregating the CPEs (ADSL/VDSL). These DSLAMs are then aggregated to Ethernet LAN switches (Tier II / TierI) either by DARK fiber on GE (If the distance is less than 20 Kms) or by a transmission systems viz. STM-16/STM1 if the distance is above 20 Kms. The DSLAMs functions similar to the ones working in the existing network and the interface is GE towards the Ethernet LAN switches.
Aggregation Network The aggregation networks uses the Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) technology switches for aggregation of access nodes (DSLAMs) and these switches are then aggregated to Broadband Network Gateway(BNG) in bigger cities which come under the classification of A1/A2/A3/A4/B1/B2 category. For cities doesnt fall A/B categories ,OC LAN switch is deployed as Tier-2 Network Device in the Multi Play network connecting the Tier-1 RPR to DSLAM in other cities.

DSLAM
The DSLAMs are collocated with existing PSTN exchanges, which provide last mile access to customers over copper wire up to average span lengths of 3 kms. The density of DSLAM will vary from 64Port to 960 Ports. The 64 P DSLAM will have one GE uplink interface. The 120P, 240P and 480P DSLAM will have 1+1 GE uplink interface. The 960P DSLAM will have 2+2 GE uplink interface.

Network Connectivity
In Broadband MultiPlay Network, a total of 107 Broadband Aggregation Points (BAP) is defined . Each BAP consist of atleast one RPR Tier 1 aggregator, one BNG and one L3PE.
The set of RPR Tier 1 aggregator and BNG, for cities classified as Broadband Aggregation Point, is referred as Metro Aggregation Unit (MAU). Each MAU will cater to roughly around 40000 DSL ports. Each RPR Tier 1 aggregator shall be mapped to RPR Tier 2 for aggregation of traffic. The mapping shall be done in such a fashion that total aggregated ports in a particular ring getting terminated in RPR Tier 1 aggregator shall be around 40000. Provision of dark fibre (one pair) between mapped RPR Tier 2 and RPR Tier 1 aggregator, in a ring fashion. The distance between the RPR Tier 1 Switch Aggregator and RPR Tier 2 can be maximum of 40 K.M
The RPR Tier 1 aggregator will be connected to BNG on multiple GE interface which in turn will be connected to L3PE Router.

Aggregation Architecture for A4 (10 No.s), B1(21), B2 (with BNG) (26) cities
Each A4, B1 and B2 cities have one BNG + one RPR Tier 1 aggregator, which will be collocated with existing NIB-II Edge Router. The existing NIB-II Edge Router will aggregate the traffic from BNG. Each RPR Tier 1 aggregator will aggregate multiple RPR Tier 2. In case of A4 cities, the aggregation will be on 10GE ring on dark fibre. In case of B1 and B2 (with BNG) cities, the aggregation will be on 1GE ring on dark fibre.

45
7-Jan-14
46
Each B2 cities will have only one RPR Tier-1 aggregator, which will be collocated with existing NIB-II Edge Router. The existing NIB-II Edge Router will tunnel the traffic to the nearest BNG. Each RPR Tier 1 aggregator will aggregate multiple RPR Tier 2 on 1GE ring on dark fibre.

Each OC Cities have one RPR Tier 2 will be interconnected to the nearest Broadband Aggregation Point on RPR Tier 1 Aggregator. Initially this connectivity is planned on Fast Ethernet (FE) Interface using FE over STM-1, as was done in NIB-II.
The provision has been made for pair of Ethernet to STM-1 converter for each OC type city, in case the Ethernet module is not available in the transmission network available in that city.

The number of ports requirement in RPR Tier 2 Switch can be calculated using the following formulae:960 P DSLAM requires four Gigabit Ethernet Interface (GE) 480 P, 240P and 120P DSLAM require two GE Interface 64 P DSLAM requires one GE Interface Each RPR Tier 2 Switch requires two number of RPR interface for connecting to RPR Tier 1 aggregators. This interface is 10GE for A1, A2, A3 & A4 cities and 1GE for B1 and B2 cities. In case of OC type cities, one FE is required for interconnecting T-2 LAN Switch in OC type city to nearest RPR T-1 Switch aggregator. Four GE ports be kept as spare / maintenance in each RPR Tier 2.
7-Jan-14 RTTC Jaipur - HKT 52
So, for example if a particular RPR T-2 Switch in say A1 city aggregates five 960 port DSLAM, five 480 port DSLAM, four 240 port DSLAM, and two 120 port DSLAM, then the total port requirement for this aggregation comes to:-
