Computers - The Future

The document discusses emerging technologies that will impact future computing. It describes Moore's Law, which states that chip density doubles every 18 months, leading to declining prices and increasing processing speeds. Nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, quantum computing are predicted to transform computing by building objects at the atomic level, enabling machines to behave intelligently, and performing calculations based on quantum mechanics. Surface computing is also discussed as a future interface where users interact directly on touchscreens rather than through keyboards and mice.

COMPUTERS THE FUTURE

ARUNKUMAR VK MEVIN MATHEW

MOORES LAW
Deals with steady rate of miniaturizing of technology Named for Intel co-founder Gordon Moore States that chip density about doubles every 18 months Prices decline First described in 1965 Experts predict this trend might continue until ~2020 limited when size reaches molecular level

MOORES LAW

SPEED AND POWER GROWTH

Processing Speed
2 times every 18 months

Storage Space
2 times ever 9 months

Fiber Optics
2 times every 6 months

Internet Traffic
2 times every 12 months

TECHNOLOGY NOW

Technology has changed much from the past from the first cell phone to the newest touch screen voice activated cell phones.

Computers have also evolved from the computer with a CRT monitor to thin laptops people carry in their backpacks.

SO WHATS NEXT?

NANOTECHNOLOGY:
Nanotechnology is the process where every matter is manipulated at the atomic level, providing the ability to build objects from their most basic parts. Just Like robotics and artificial intelligence. These advances in nanotechnology are likely to continue in the future, making this one of the most powerful aspects of future computing.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

A branch of computer science dealing with the simulation of intelligent behavior in computers
The capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior

INTELLIGENT SIMULATIONS

Silicon Brain Simulation

IBM BlueBrain

QUANTUM COMPUTING

A quantum computer is a machine that performs calculations based on the laws of quantum mechanics.
A theoretical model is the Quantum Turing machine Universal Quantum Computer.

WHY QUANTUM COMPUTING

By 2020 to 2025, transistors will be so small and it will generate so much heat that standard silicon technology may eventually collapse.

Intel has implemented 32nm silicon technology

WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS

The future holds advanced technology such as projected keyboards and UI, extensive surface computing, pen computers, and many more.

SURFACE COMPUTING

Surface computing is the term for the use of a specialized computer GUI in which traditional GUI elements are replaced by intuitive, everyday objects.

Instead of a keyboard and mouse, the user interacts directly with a touch-sensitive screen.
