Introduction to Network

The term network in computing system means two or more computers connected each other to form a network and networking means two or more computers connected with each other and sharing data and resources. The networks brought the entire organization and its users under one umbrella on the common information technology platform making the information a corporate resource sharable by all.

Network Topology

Is the physical interconnections of the elements (links, nodes ,etc.) of a computer network . It is a multiuser system. The network provides a modularity, connectivity, superior performance, security & reliability. A local area network (LAN) is one example of a network that exhibits both a physical topology and a logical topology.

BUS TOPOLOGY

BUS TOPOLOGY use a common backbone to connect all devices. A single cable, the backbone functions as a shared communication medium that devices attach or tap into with an interface connector. A device wanting to communicate with another device on the network sends a broadcast message onto the wire that all other devices see, but only the intended recipient actually accepts and processes the message

BUS TOPOLOGY

Ethernet bus topologies are relatively easy to install and don't require much cabling compared to the alternatives. 10Base-2 ("ThinNet") and 10Base-5 ("ThickNet") both were popular Ethernet cabling options However, bus networks work best with a limited number of devices. If more than a few dozen computers are added to a network bus, performance problems will likely result. In addition, if the backbone cable fails, the entire network effectively becomes unusable

STAR TOPOLOGY

Star Topology Many home networks use the star topology. A star network features a central connection point called a "hub" that may be a hub, switch or router. Devices typically connect to the hub with Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Ethernet. Compared to the bus topology, a star network generally requires more cable, but a failure in any star network cable will only take down one computer's network access and not the entire LAN. (If the hub fails, however, the entire network also fails.)

RING TOPOLOGY
Ring Topology In a ring network, every device has exactly two neighbors for communication purposes. All messages travel through a ring in the same direction (either "clockwise" or "counterclockwise"). A failure in any cable or device breaks the loop and can take down the entire network. To implement a ring network, one typically uses FDDI, SONET, or Token Ring technology. Ring topologies are found in some office buildings or school campuses

Data Communication
Data communication is a process of transporting the data from one file location to the other. ExampleAirlines reservation system Automated banking system The data communication hence needs a system to transport the data. The role of the system is to accept the input data, structure if for quick transportation and restructure it when received at the destination in an understandable form. Models of connectivity for network

TCP/IP are different models for achieving connectivity in the networks. The Transmission Control protocol/ Internet Protocol models help to link disparate computer system using different hardware and software platform.

It was developed by United States of Defence in 1972

Examples of Network Applications

The networks are used for the interactive communication needs between different locations. It helps finds solutions when data bases are distributed. The integration of data and interfacing of applications is possible because of basic capability of the network on sharing of resources and the services It breaks the physical boundaries : factories, units, branches etc. bringing information under one umbrella Wednesday, October 16, MIS - PGDM III SEM - Laxmi, Kumud &

What is Unified Communications

Checks the presence of the recipient and allows communication to trigger UC different from UM UC integrates all communication systems & helps those systems to work in sync in real time. Employees, business partners, & customers collaborate to conduct business operations with a combination of different communication modes across multiple workspaces such as: airport, desk, conference room, warehouses, branches, vehicles, vendor/customer location Wednesday, October 16, MIS - PGDM III SEM - Laxmi, Kumud &
