The lesson plan aims to teach grade 3 students about number patterns. The objective is for 75% of students to be able to identify components of number patterns, appreciate patterns through exercises, and write missing numbers. The teacher will review the previous lesson through a body exercise, discuss assignments from 3 students, and display visual aids defining number patterns and their 3 components. Students will then be split into groups and given pocket charts to identify types of patterns and fill in missing numbers.

Three Types of Number Patterns

Arithmetic Sequence is formed by adding a particular value each time to the value just before it. Ex. 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 is an Arithmetic Sequence as 2 is added each time to find the next term of the pattern
1 3 5

Geometric

Sequence is formed by multiplying a particular value each time to the value just before it.

Ex. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 is Geometric Sequence as 2 is multiplied each them to find the next term of the patterns.

16

Fibonacci Sequence Starts with 0 and the sequence is formed by adding the two previous numbers.

Ex. 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 13 is a Fibonacci sequence where the next number of the patterns is formed by adding 1 to the previous number.
