Sitar- carries the melody. The most popular string instrument in India. Originated from Iran, called as setar -3 strings.

Flute could be made of different materials like bamboo, ivory, ebony, sandalwood or metal. Two Types of Flute 1. Venu flute found in Southern India. This has eight holes.

2. Bansuri flute found in Northern India. This has six holes.

Nagaswaran a doublereed instrument. Known as Mangala Vadya Mangala auspicious Vadya - instrument This is played in temples, festivals and wedding ceremonies. It has 2 variaties: 1. Tamiri shorter and higher in pitch. 2. Pari longer and lower in pitch.

Veena a plucked instrument used mostly in Carnatic Music. Four strings are used to play the melody, while the three remaining three strings are used to play the drone Vainika one who plays veena.
